Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

If we want to wait for second round offers but have received an offer for another uni, what should i do? can i accept it and still be in line for a secondr ound?

The second round will be predominantly offers to interstate students (and maybe a few in-state). After that there may be third round/top up offers depending on how many decline from rounds one and two.
Thanks for this info. I saw on UAC that the second round offers are on the 21st of Jan, which seems too close to the "late January" interviews for interstate applicants. Thats why I thought that the UAC third round was for the interstate students and not the 21st of Jan second round.

Also, I did an interview for JCU (through the general applicants, not the aboriginal pathway) and I know the offers are released on the 14th of Jan. Do you know if this is the only offer round? Thanks

Second round of offers, not second round of UAC specifically (UAC ‘rounds’ have been rolling out since about early November, we are well passed the second UAC round).

No direct entry universities have a single round of offers (including JCU). All must work to fill declined afterwards. Some over offer initially, and so top ups are very minimal (but still exist). Others don’t over offer by many and have multiple subsequent rounds (UAdel for example).

definitely accept your other offer but make sure that your med preferences are above the offer you accepted and you'll be in the running for later rounds

Can I just check, u can get one offer from each state right? And accepting/rejecting offer from one state’s admission centre won’t affect another state? Thanks!

This^ is 120% correct.

Generally (i.e. except JCU calling then sending offer letters outside of QTAC) you can get one offer from each state/TAC *per offer round*.

UAC then allows you to hold multiple offers that you get from multiple rounds. WA TISC "confiscates" the earlier offer if you get a higher-pref one in a later round. I think QTAC is similar to TISC with Conditional acceptance. Not sure about SATAC / VTAC / UTas.

My friend (rural applicant) just a received a phone call from UNSW letting them know they received a port maq offer for the feb 4th offer round as long as they preference UNSW first. They were a usyd non standard applicant this year so weren’t eligible for the Jan 8th offer round as usyd released their sem 2 marks after this date. Originally they were waiting for the second January offer round as both UNSW and JMP let them know they would be considered then (as UAC would have their marks by then) and not disadvantaged in anyway. They did not receive an offer for the second jan offer round. When they called JMP up they said there had been an issue with the marks and no offers were made that offer round and to wait until the feb 4th offer round.

My friend is very happy with the UNSW offer and will preference it first if required however they ideally want JMP if they had the choice. Is UNSW correct that they will only be eligible for an offer if they preference it first (can they tell?). My friend is going to call JMP and see if they can provide any information on a potential offer however I doubt they’ll be forthcoming. What’s the best course of action at this point? Preference UNSW first and take the guaranteed offer?

Other than Bond being weird the general rule of preferencing is you get the highest offer that you qualify for i.e. can be 2nd or 3rd. I feel UNSW saying UNSW first pref is just a simpler way than saying "provided you are not getting a higher pref" (but not 100% sure on that).

If your friend can obtain a record of this UNSW verbal offer they can try for JMP first pref. Then if they get neither JMP nor UNSW they can use this record to argue with UAC who deals with preferencing.

Or maybe call UAC ask is there any risk of losing UNSW if they put JMP first.

If I accept an offer on SATAC, is there an option to defer that 'acceptance', given I do it before the deadline?
When I did it was all different between the schools. I clicked the Defer button in the VTAC's offer for Monash, thought that was it only to be told by Monash later I had to submit a request to Monash for approval. Otoh I did the same in QTAC for UQ and received an auto-reply yup approved.

So to be safe, if this is for Adelaide Dent you need to ask Adelaide Dent directly, not SATAC.

Yes I asked about the deference to Adelaide Uni and they directed me to SATAC and how I can just click the defer button. But my main question is that if I accept on SATAC and then I change my mind that I actually want to defer, can I contact SATAC to change that?
