Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

You can only receive one offer in the main offer round; the one you've put as your first preference or your highest eligible offer (correct me if I'm wrong). So, if you have UNSW as #1 and get an offer from them, you won't see one from WSU.
Oh so if you receive a UNSW offer as your 1st preference, you have no way of knowing if WSU offered you a place?

I'm not too sure on whether or not you would be able to see whether another Uni wanted to give you an offer on UAC 🤔.

But regardless, if you got your #1 preference in the main offer round, there wouldn’t be another offer in that round for you to accept/deny on UAC (you may have another offer from another states admission centre if you applied though).

Would it help if you called up the guys at WSU directly? Or if you rejected the 1st round offer from UNSW, could you theoretically get the WSU offer in the 2nd round?

Welp, wish I knew how the preferencing worked b4 I rushed into putting down all 3 campuses for UNSW

No I don’t think it would help at all calling the university directly, they keep everything the same for everyone so it’s equitable. They give UAC a list and UAC goes down the list giving offers to everyone who is eligible and who hasn’t already received an offer. unfortunetely this is just the way the cookie crumbles with medicine if you are concerned preference WSU first and UNSW second however there is no way to guanatee you won’t be allocated to Wagga as you have said you are happy for take a place there and it was said to only tick this option if you are completely open too actually accepting a position in the said location.

Ordering of preferences for the main round have now closed on UAC, there is no way to change your order until after the main round offers. If you are hoping for an offer from WSU you will be able to change the order of your preferences after this main round and hope for an offer. However, there are no published dates for any other offer rounds currently on the WSU MD page and how WSU chooses to hand these out is up to their discretion.

Also, if you have UNSW as your #1 preference and are offered a place and reject your offer from UNSW, you will not be offered another place from UNSW in any subsequent rounds. See this response from LMG!
No. Based on historical data, if you place WSU 1 and UNSW 2, are not eligible for WSU but are eligible for UNSW, you’ll get the UNSW offer regardless of the preferencing of others.

ETA: there are some people that seem to be saying you have to have UNSW #1 to receive an offer, but this appears to be a misinterpretation. The issue for UNSW lies in having them #2 in the first round and getting a higher offer/your first preference, OR declining an offer (ie. a BMP), you won’t be considered in any subsequent rounds (ie. by switching preferences).

Thanks for your help guys! I'm such a fool :(

I assume that calling UNSW directly would also be useless, so I guess I just gotta wait it out now and hope for the best

Calling any University would be useless since University's don't have direct control over current applicant's preferences. UAC would also not be able to do anything since allowing someone to change their preferences after the cut-off date would be highly unfair to others.

Try not to be too hard on yourself. At the end of the day, the best med school is the one you get accepted to!

Calling any university directly is useless.

For one, I would say they will have submitted their list to UAC which is why preferencing changing has closed they would currently be in the process of organising who to release offers too and secondly, the university would not tell you if you were going to receive an offer at PMQ/Wagga or Kensington even if they knew that wouldn’t be fair to other students so unless you wanted to completely scrub the chance of going to university at one of those campuses for a compassionate change of circumstances which again would have likely needed to take place weeks ago as UNSW will have submitted their list.

I think preference do not matter. If you qualify for a spot they are obliged to present it to you.

Hi.
I got an email from uac saying 'you have not been successful in this offer round' and showed me the unis im unsuccessful for, including jmp. However, I am awaiting an offer from JMP on the 3rd February (February offer round) as I am an interstate applicant. Has anyone else received this email from uac?
getting a bit anxious right now.

Note the words "this offer round". Don't worry too much about it.
