To the waitlisted OLY1s - do not give up hope just yet, as I have just declined my offer from UOA in favour of a earlier offer I recieved from Melbourne for the MD.

Good luck and congratulations to those that have been accepted. Enjoy the New Year!!

Clinical psychologist, and I was OLY1 this year. Melbourne is my home town, hence my interest in going back. Was looking at staying in auckland, but have just sold the house, and partner has a job offer in melbourne.

yay just got the info pack for med school

but does anyone know where the sealink ferry terminal is?? tbh i don't even know where half moon bay is

Sorry for the perpetual questions - I am overseas on holidays until the end of next month so not at home to get anything from uni.....is the pack for everyone & what's the deal with the ferry details??? Jenny - would you mind relaying the details of the camp & orientation week - like dates, whether they are one in the same thing and whether the camp is compulsory..... ta.

also - could someone provide the FB link you are all talking about. I have searched (obviously not well) and can't find anything that looks like it.....just other year's pages.... thnx so much....

Freshers camp is usually the week before university begins. I can't remember the exact details but usually it involves taking a ferry to motatapu island and hiking to the camp site. It used to be at camp adair until my class ummm had some rather interesting celebrations which resulted in us getting banned

You should definitely go!

Freshers is from 18th Feb to 20th Feb , and the first orientation day (at uni) is on the 24th. The ferry details were about the freshers camp.

Hey, does anyone know if we're meant to withdraw from Biomedical science? Because on SSO it says I'm doing both programmes now (MBChB and BSc).

Hey the camp is like emerald said, from the 18th -20 th of feb but it's not compulsory! it sounds real fun though so you should try come if you can :)
the pack just had information about enrollments opening on the 17th of january, and info about aumsa (you can sign up later)
the orientation day is on the 24th, 25th of feb and they're compulsory. if you don't attend them your place in the programme will be forfeited
there's also a immunisation questionaire that you have to fill out and bring in etc
if you want to go to freshers camp it says you have to pay by wednesday 19th jan

oh and the fb group.. i think it's invite only.. so if you send me a pm with your facebook name i can add you in :)

i don't think so.. but then again i'm just assuming that the faculty will eventually realize that we're not doing biomed since we aren't enrolling in any of their papers...

Thnx for that guys. Really appreciate you taking the time. Got it all sorted in my head now! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make freshers. But I'll have many years to get to know my classmates so I'm not too worried. Sounds like a fun weekend though. Enjoy! and be safe!!!!!!

Not wanting to seem like a doubter, and I apologise in advance if I am wrong here, but your story seems to be very suspect. I won't pretend that I got to know all the matures that did OLY1 last year, but I would definitely think that I would of heard of one that was a psychologist and australian. I know there was a vet, a couple of nurses, a paramedic, and a physiotherapist, but I definitely didn't come across or hear of a psychologist. Hopefully I'm wrong, and you really have declined a spot, otherwise it'll be quite a cruel joke to the person who is first on the waiting list and thinks that they've got a spot in medicine now.

So what's the story siftboy??

I'm sorry, I didn't think that thru.

That's disappointing you insensitive twat. Bad enough that some of us are going through the dissappoinment of being waitlisted, then you have to come along and give false hope on top of that. What were you thinking? That you were helping? Or was this just some weird attempt to get some attention in your life? I'm sorry if I'm sounding unduly harsh, but your actions have been pretty damn foolish. Correct me if I'm wrong.

calm your tone jimbob, that's completely unneccesary. As far as I'm concerned, siftyboy might actually be a clinical psychologist. There is no way you could have known all the grads in OLY1 anyways so you should give him/her a break. Just calm down and wait till the 5th then call the university. There are always people who don't accept the offer because they get dual offered auckland/otago or auckland/australia so you just have to be patient

anybody know if we were supposed to have received the Hep B vaccine when we were little?

also what textbooks do you MBCHB guys recommend to buy since I don't really feel like spending $2000 on all the ones listed on the uni bookshop site?

Well, lucky for you govpop! You will only need to buy Clinically Oriented Anatomy, which will become known as "Moore's" to you all next year. I remember last year I wanted to buy heaps of textbooks, but all I needed was Moores. This year I might buy Robbins and Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, but only out of interest.

So does that mean pretty much all of the information we need to know is in the course guides like last year?
