oh nice toaster! yeah Im just getting the overall idea of the rules doctors live by... so when they ask you whether you had any questions to ask, what sort of things did u ask about? Like about the stucture of couse or specialisation? I don't want to ask about things that might not be relevant to the interview (ie too far into the future)

So do med offers come out before mapas interviews have finished? or is everything considered?

I actually forgot to think of one beforehand, so I had to make one up quick on the spot. I asked about their opinions as doctors over public vs private healthcare. What you should ask depends on who you get as interviewers though, because not all of them are doctors, and not all of them have anything to do with the course, as far as I am aware. So you should take notice of what they say they do, and tailor your question towards them.

ok does anyone know when the offers are being made? mapas offers coming out on friday, but what about general???? Is it before or after mapas offers. Angela tsai didn't help much, just said we find out the day after the committee meet....

I'm beginning to think wednesday right now. Traditionally they would do it the last day after the interviews (at least they did in my year). But last year they took 1 day for deliberation as opposed to just the morning. So I say wednesday afternoon. All the marks are in the system since they input them as soon as the interviews end

I don't know. I've heard a few different times as to when they could be coming out. One of them is tomorrow, being the day after the last interview. Apparently one of the med students at the interview was saying it would be 2-3 days after the last interview, and they were typing up offer letters to send out. At least everything seems to agree on it being this week!

How did your interview go?

lol yeah i thought wednesday too, because the committee meet the day after interviews am i right? What do they deliberate about? borderline people? Number of places? I think i'll be the borderline ppl with my so-so gpa.

Toaster my interview went awesome! I had gud ol Rod Jackson and this other guy andy. Extremely relaxed, we talked a lot about politics, nationals policies on health, my culture, beliefs, and as usual he threw in the "what was the last movie you watched" =P don't know if it was gud enough to make up for my marks!

Well as far as I am aware, the interview is almost the most influential part of admissions, so hopefully your awesome interview will take you there! Rod would've been an interesting interviewer to have. Did you work in "butter is poison" somehow? That would've been auto-entry there, if you did.

lol yeah of course i did, as part of "what i learnt this year" =P Rod was awesome! So was andy! I'm so glad I keep up to date with current events as they asked a lot on the maori party and so forth, so hopefuly it was the ticket into med. Yeah i heard its practically even once you get the interview, a lot of 9 gpas don't get in, but a lot of 7.5 (which was the cut off) do get in. It's 25% but there is a huge difference between A interview and B. One of the med students who was there before the interview told me how he got in with 2 A and 2 A- last year with general admission, so I guess there is hope!

Well I do hope some GPA 9.0s get in this time. Do you know what the GPA for interviews went down to? A friend of mine who had 7.5 missed out on interviews, so it mustve been quite high this year

according to angela tsai the cut off was 7.5, but remember they take account UMAT too, my friend had a gpa of 7.5 and she got an interview, she had an average umat of about 65th percentile too.. Hmm... Now I'm extremely worried about my own gpa, I hope there are a lot of anti social people above me =P

So it was similar to past few years? Lol stupid rumour has it that Medsci142 papers take too long to mark (it's such a huge class and all) so they made it multi choice.

I am so glad that there are no interviews for Otago :D. Sorry, I don't know how to put this under an off-topic box thing.

Oh, well its sort of true. They changed the midsemester test to all multichoice, so they could mark quickly. Apparently last year, the marks for the test was returned only just before exams or something.

You lucky otago people. But then again, your UMAT score is weighted really highly. And for a test, that to me, more closely resembles a random lottery than actually reflecting your personality and character, that is a scary thought.

it actually didn't take that long to marked. 12 of us took 10 days to mark all 1150 scripts. It wasn't all too difficult actually :D

the format was the same as the original MCQ/SAQ mix

I guess it's just how subjective you're willing to let it be. If you're intelligent and can look the part then first impressions can go a long way. I think I would rather let a horrible UMAT test decide instead of 3 people who are unpredictable :O. At least for something like entry into med lol.
