I disagree. 3rd year exams are harder than 2nd year exams. The content taught in 3rd year is more complex. The reason why 2nd year exams seem relatively higher is because the workload jump from OLY 1 to year 2 is about 4-5x compared with 2nd-3rd year where there is no workload increase and you are used to the med school style

True 3rd year stuff is def more complex. But you can't deny the sheer volume of 2nd year. I guess it kinda relates to how your brain works. Somebody who is good at anatomy might not find 2nd year too bad.

Oh and let's not forget that 2nd years get the sh!ttiest timetable haha. 3rd year timetable is sweet :)

I heard from a questionable source that a girl was offered to do med immediately after her interview. Is that possible like an auto-entry?

Auto entry is extremely rare but does exist. I have no idea when they are announced though...

I would assume same as everyone....

To anyone anxiously waiting for offers...I heard that they are going to be coming out on Friday the 19th, late in the afternoon so that no one can ring and complain. Fridays the day after the last MAPAS interview, so I guess you were right Lordgarlic, only you forgot to count the MAPAS days.

Yay for more days spent in suspense!

As far as I am aware, they just take the average of each of your scaled scores, and assign it a grade point, similar to how they work out GPA for you courses. I think lordgarlic explained what they did with UMAT in an earlier post in this thread.

it's explained somewhere at the start of the thread. At least that was how they used to do it. These days I presume they just take your overall score and assign a GPA

What friday??? I know mapas finds out on friday, but how do you know general does toaster? thats ages away lol, i thought mapas interviews were over? My friend had hers on friday I think. Does everyone find out at the same time or do general find out before mapas??

Well at least if you think its Friday you probably won't be dissapointed if it doesn't come out tomorrow. I was told by a friend, who is friends with one of the 2nd year students helping out at interviews, and who apparently has something to do with typing up the letters for offers - I know it doesn't exactly sound concrete, but its the most reputable thing I've heard so far. I guess it makes sense if they release everyone's offers at once. So yeah...its probably gonna be another couple of days refreshing ndeva.

seems like friday is not the day! Got an email from Angela Tsai saying its going to be released on tuesday. Gah can someone please please put me out of my misery! Why does it take so long? I mean they have grades, umat and interview scores, so doesn't the computer do the rest? what do they actually have to "discuss"...

Awww, how could this be!? Haven't we waited long enough! Did the email just say it would be Tuesday, any explanation? I really can't see how it could take this long. I think I'm going to go cry now...

Oh come on, you'll survive :P
Otago offers are due Tue 23rd 11pm at the very latest so we'll race you Auckland people ;)

But at least you know exactly when you have had to wait til. I keep hearing different dates, that all seem credible and all make sense, so the tension builds up to that day...but nothing ever happens, and it gets pushed back...again and again.

Otago is always in the lead :P

Did Auckland just recently finish interviews? If so, that's really late. Otago does their interviews just before lecture in 2nd semester finish.

Medicine interviews finished on Monday, but the Mapas ones finished today I think. I guess its a bit different to Otago, seeing as hardly any otago students actually live in otago, so it would be majorly inconveniant to ask them to come back for their interview. Whereas most Auckland people, actually live in Auckland.

Oh yes, that makes sense. It just seems like they'd need to deliberate quickly on the matter if they're doing it so close to the end.
