Basically if you did well enough to get an interview they won't really care how your grades are.
They are there to judge your personal ability to handle medicine as a degree and career. They'll leave all the academic stuff to the faculty to sort out.

And the interviews vary depending on who you get...some posters on MSO have said that they got questions that were derived from their form, while others stated that it was never or hardly refered to.

thanks.so I guess the auckland interview is very unpredictive-u don't/can't prepare for it?

Well other than watching the news, browsing through previous posts for tips, research UoA med school and whats going to be taught later in the degree and pretty much being familiar with your m3oh form...
Preparation is advised against but people go through courses anyways. Do what you would normally do for an interview

Just to add, I've finished up my first semester and all newbies reading this thread should understand that often your final grades are dependant on how well you do in mid semester tests. Don't stress yourself out but get into some good study habits from day one.
The best study ethic to get into is just spend half and hour to an hour reading over the material you've gone over that day in class. It doesn't take a huge amount of your time and it's really helpful when revising later-you tend to remember more.
Also don't get cocky...so many 1st years make the mistake of doing that and end up cursing their stupidity later (your looking at one).

Wow. I could'nt have said it better myself. Man, i wish I did'nt mess up mid semester so much. Because exams were doable. Its so hard to catch up after a average mid semester though :(

btw, welcome to MSO...
:O

Haha high five mate.
Looking back I'm seriously slapping myself for thinking it was hard! Even 15% for the chemistry tests could be the difference between A and A+

Wow it feels like AGES since I wrote this, despite only being a little over 3 months...zzz

You guys couldn't have said it better, you just have to be focused the entire time starting from day one. What you do on Monday, you finish before you go to sleep (preferably on the same day).

Regarding mid-terms: I was talking to a guy in my hall who had screwed up his mid-term test for a certain paper, said he needed a 98% in the finals to get an A+. Shows how much pressure a bad mid-term(s) can potentially make.

Watch out for bio 107 :D
Mid term worth 36% of your final grade

o.O At Otago the biggest semester one terms test is 20%, the rest are around 15%, so you have to screw them up big time to count yourself out of an A+

yeah. got ripped iinto litlle shreds by 107 mid sem. dont want to think about it.
ok exaggeration- it wasnt that bad. lol. sucks though :s

I'd say for a lot of people that won't be exaggeration. And most of those people would have been screwed over by the sheer differences between uni and high school and how you need to shift your learning/studying styles to suit. For many this wasn't a huge deal, but I certainly found it a huge culture shock and wisened up after the exams.
Bit sad that they shove 3 of the 4 cores in first semester. Can't be helped I suppose

Yeah I know man, it was pretty bad for me too. Like 'Killed any chance at A+ bad'. Just trying to not think about it to much cause yes, its too late now :(
Yeah, I agree with you completely, I wish they split it, like two this semester, two the next! Gives you time to adjust. Cause time flies soo quick, and before you know it its mid sems, then exams and now break. Cant believe one semester is over already tbh. But I guess thats how they 'eliminate people' from the list? If you don't focus from the start- tough luck kind thing? lol. Oh well, hope you enjoy your holidays and don't worry about it too much :) Im trying too. Not keen for results..

can't you do physics in semester one and shift chem 110 to semester 2?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think they changed that rule this year? I know you could do it last year...but I remember reading somewhere that they wouldn't let you do it this year. That may just be my mind playing tricks on me though... =)

No, you cant- well not if you're doing biomed atleast. I know of some health sci people doing chem semester 2. We can't in biomed because we HAVE to do biosci 106 in semester 2, and chem and biosci 101 are prerequisites for biosci 106 so we have to do them semester 1...
alg though, everyone is in the same boat i guess..

I know of some health sci people doing chem semester 2.

One of our core papers for health science is Health psychology 122 and it clashes with chem 110 in sem 2 so I don't think you can if your doing the BHSc
Everyone going for medicine (which is 98% of the class) will have done chem 110 in semester one.

hey guyz, jst wanderin hw u guys gt frm city to grafton campus (for the medsci lab). i cant walk bcoz i hav physics ryt b4.

Ummm I always walked? The labs start at quarter past the hour...or at least they did last year giving you 20mins to make the walk to grafton...easily doable. I suppose you could catch a bus if you wanted, but I doubt that would make it much quicker.
