so 7.25 is the lowest entrance we are aware of then?

i had previously heard from someone that the GPA to gain an interview last yr was 7.5 ... i should know better than believing the rumours i hear round campus lol

There is no set GPA to get an interview, it is stated by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences that twice as many applicants are interviewed than there are places therefore it would be fair to assume that around 400+ students will be interviewed. This report states that estimated number of med school places each year from auckland and otago

If you want an exact number of places, the medical deans website has it all :) I have it on good authority (Otago's dean of med) that the proposed place-rises for the 2013 intake at Auckland have been postponed (presumably till the 2014 intake), so the total NZ 2012 intake and 2013 domestic intakes will theoretically be the same size.[/offtopic]

They always make claims but they're not Tanya Savage who's in charge of med admissions so they can never ever be reliable.

Thats incredibly weird. I know two with that core GPA that didn't get an interview. One was rural and one was standard.

You can't completly trust whats written here, I personally emailed the FMHS and got the cut off scores directly from them. The cut-off for standard was GPA 7.5 for interview and Rural slightly lower. Can't believe all those rumors going around .

thanks a lot :) i had heard 7.5 from a lot of ppl round campus, but as tupac said earlier, best to contact admissions office.

Interesting. I got an email from the auckland uni medical admissions office and they advised that the GPA cutoff for interviews was 7.5 in 2010 and 7.25 in 2011.

Well 7.25 in 2011 confirms the claim doesn't it.

Hi everyone :)

I'm new here (evident by my post count), but I've actually been following this forum for a while ^_^.

I was wondering if anyone here knows anyone who got into MBChB at Auckland with a core GPA of 8.0? Thanks to POPLHLTH, which I was (ironically) most confident about doing well in, my core GPA plummeted...
Basically, I was wondering if I had any hope  . The standard is so insanely high! I never woiuld have thought that I'd be sad at having a solid A GPA.

Hey Lemons! Welcome to this thread (officially haha) :D

Just my thoughts on your GPA: from having read many, many accounts of people's cores and whether or not they have gotten in the archive and whatnot, I think that your GPA will still give you a chance to get an interview, that's for sure! As for the getting in after that, I can't really shed some light on it as it's all relative anyway ;)

All in all, you still have hope! Definitely focus on MEDSCI, but you should be fine :)

[OFFTOPIC]Of course, since I'm taking the same course as you, I don't have solid evidence to back up my statement, so take my opinion with some cynicism! :p[/OFFTOPIC]
