Hey guys! Kinda new here, doing biomed as well :)
I was just wondering if we're supposed to write full-on essays for the MH03 forms?
And good luck with the medsci test today!

Good luck to everyone for medsci! :D (And welcome to MSO, Teous!)

yeah i always struggle writing about myself :( i also find it quite difficult to convey why i want to medicine in a written format without being cliched :/

Agreed. I feel that if the interviewers read a generic MH03, that may immediately form a less than favourable perception from the get-go, even though they are trained to be unbiased in their assessment of us.

Clichés like this exist because they're true for quite a lot of (if not most) people wanting to do medicine. Peoples' reasons for doing medicine do seem to largely boil down (once you look deep enough into them) to some combination of the following: Wanting to help people, having a serious interest in the science behind it all, some form of parental pressure, some kind of masochistic desire to overwork themselves, and of course, chicks, power, money and chicks.
Point being that you don't necessarily have to come up with 'original' reasons for wanting to do medicine (chances are that every conceivable reason for wanting to do it will be mentioned by at least one of the applicants :p ), you just have to be honest, and perhaps try and put clichéd reasons into your own words.

GOOD LUCK FOR MEDSCI GUYS
I'm starting to wish that they didn't split the final exam and give us an end-of-semester test xD.

I think the reluctance to talk yourself up is a kiwi thing. The whole "tall poppy" thing puts us in our place when we need it but doesn't really help in an interview type situation!

I reckon be upfront that you are modest. It speaks volumes to say "look I'm not this awesome person but I am willing to learn and grow into this role." It's something I've always stated in my interviews because I know no-one is looking for someone my age to be the complete package.

yeah your not alone, that test was evil on some degree.... :/ (LOL "after a long day of sexual activity...........", I let of a loud HA by accident in the test room -.-)

Who else blew that musculoskeletal lab question? Besides, what kind of chicken relaxingly leans on the wall of their coop? :O

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows how they scale/rank the UMAT scores out of 15%? Lets say a student with raw score of 50 compared to 60?

wasted so much bloody time trying to decipher their attempt to make questions more 'interesting'

Tell me about! I spent a good 4-5 minutes trying to imagine how a chicken leans against a wall! I eventually put "The insertion of the Illiofibullar muscle moves Posteriorly and Superiorly in the non weight bearing leg" or something like that.

So... I propose we run a betting pool on which flow diagram Ken Scott will test us on in the exam. I bet an (imaginary) $100 that he will give us:

1) Phospholipid Biosynthesis, or
2) The Urea Cycle.

i bet its the one i forget to study haha ... i shouldn't have left 106 study this late, fml.
probably urea cycle or fatty acid biosynthesis.

The Urea cycle is not so bad, but oh my god, the phospholipid synthesis pathway takes the award for most long-winded enzyme names:

e.g. 1,2 - diacylglycerol Phosphoethanolamine Transferase. or: Phosphoethanolamine Cytidylyltransferase

Thanks BC mso, good luck to you too for medsci on saturday!
just had a depressing epiphany ... 106 isn't actually as bad as i expected it to be (im not trolling), i just wish i'd done more work for it throughout this half semester :(

That moment when you realise you can summarise biochem in <2days... :O (with procrastination shoved in for good effect)

But yeah, good luck to everyone for 106 tomorrow!!

Med Sci results are out. I did waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than I thought I had (51/54). I've been moping the last few days because I thought I'd done terribly.

Hope everyone else did well, and good luck for tomorrow.
