Lucky you Harry, I spent the day catching up on Medical Physics.

Man the Physics department is disorganized: I was given 0.7/10 for the final physics lab because the lab tutors lost my book. The upside is that I confronted Graham Foster about it, and he gave me 8.4/10 based on the class average. Life always has a silver lining.

So how is everyone going with their plan Bs? I'm taking it more seriously now that we are on the final stretch, and I'm 95% sure I'm going to switch to Biomedical Engineering if I don't get in. I don't want to stay with Biomed because to be honest, there is no creativity whatsoever in it. The same could be said for medicine.....

yeah i've been considering biomedical engineering too, definitely some pretty awesome projects going on in the field e.g trying to artificially recreate synovial fluid, and prosthetics etc. i prefer the idea of applied science such as engineering/medicine as opposed to doing a pure BSc. they have to sit 142 and 107 in 2nd year as well, so that would open up some space in your timetable too :) from what i've heard from a friend in engineering it is quite competitive to get into with approx 20 places, but they do accept a few from OLY1. i've also been considering the prospect of a gap year to re-evaluate my options but the parents aren't too keen on the idea

^ Take a semester off perhaps?

Or even do half the requirements and pursue some other courses that don't relate to your degree.

Hey guys. For the MH03 form and interview, I was wondering if it was a definite NO on mentioning that parents are doctors and that watching them make a difference was a motivation?

Personally, I don't think there is a problem with that. You just have to be careful of the way you go about conveying it. You want to make sure that you let them know that your motivations are intrinsic to what you want to do rather than just because you know people that are doctors. I hope you get what I mean

I think you have more of an understanding of what practicing medicine is like than others. This is most definitely an advantage because the interviewers are likely looking to prevent people waltzing into medicine with a stylized view.

Give some personal reasons as to how your parents experiences have put you onto this pathway. Give a mix of good and bad experiences and how they've shaped your motivations in pursuing this goal. You've got a chance to show some critical thinking and maturity with this answer.

Just checking (alert: paranoia :P ), but when it says "Application closing date: 1 November" on the MH03 page, that doesn't mean as of midnight tonight, right?

[OFFTOPIC]I know I'm cutting it a bit close, but need to fix a few things first xD[/OFFTOPIC]

My reading is that the closing date is indeed midnight tonight...if in doubt submit..it's not something I would risk.

Yes, I'd go with what you and my friends said, seeing as the information is slightly vague :/

Oh, and welcome to MSO! :D Are you studying OLY1 as well?

Dont know how many fellow OLY1 health science students are on here....but to any of you,
Good Luck for Population Health tomorrow and Health Psyc on Sat.........

im probably talking to myself -.-

Thanks - No I'm an oldie have already finished a couple of degrees so am applying via the graduate entry

Wow, good luck for grad entry then! :) Mind sharing what you've previously completed?

I did a PhD overseas but decided I don't want to remain only in the research side of things

That's great to hear :) I reckon that the research part of your degree will strengthen your application :P

Just a reminder to everyone that the MH03 should be submitted before midnight tonight if you haven't already! I still don't know whether yesterday/today was the actual deadline, but hey. (For all the paranoid/prepared people, we can relax... :))

Btw, how are people finding the physics exam questions? I thought there weren't going to be MCQs again...
