F*** YEA! 2 A+'s in 1 day!!!

Congrats for all the good results!
Just wondering how's everyone's GPA for the 4 core papers. Mine's 8.5 (damn POPLHLTH). Don't know what sort of score is needed for the interview:unsure:

By the way, any idea on what the cut-off point for the interview is gonna be this year? Seeing not very many people got A+ in medsci, my guess is 7.25-7.5

im 8.5 as well, f***ing pophlth man, i hated that paper since the first 10 minutes of the first lecture. But apart from that, i think with that sorta GPA across the core papers (im guessing most of the successful candidates are usually in the range of 8.00-8.75), we probably would need a B in the interview to get in...

what'd you guys think?

Nice. What d'you mean by a B in the interview? I'm still quite confused about how the interview scores work.
So there are 5 criterias, each has 10 marks. But how come there are 5 marks in total from each interviewer? And the perfect score is 5 from each, with 10 in total. Man that's confusing

Actually I don't feel sorted at all. Apparently they turned down quite a few students with 8.5 last year. You can never tell what's gonna happen, unless if you're like somebody with a GPA of 9. Man i do hate the people who love poplhlth:mad:lol

I find that hard to believe, think about it, Dr. Quilter said that ~25% of the class this year got either an A+, A or A-. If you assume that we're 1200 students in medsci, then 25% of that is 300. since there are ~200 places this year for MBChB, they will interview ~400 people. Assuming (obviously) said people were part of the 25% cohort from medsci, then they need to interview an extra 100 people who got one of the B grades for the subject. Assuming lastly that people get roughly the same marks across their core papers, then with that logic id say the cutoff this year would be a good 7.75 if not less

Gentlemen.

Except general entry is more like ~130 places? Leaving 1/3 for graduates means only ~80 places or something along the lines of that but don't quote me on it.

Still, it's hardly about marks. Since we all have such similar core GPAs, interviews should ultimately decide whether we make the cut or not.

I always forget about that...

Either way, they still need 400 interviewees, and according to my calculations the cutoff will still be the same

Let's break it down:

191 places
-45 (Maori and Pacific Island students)
-30 (Rural students)
= 116

And with a third of those going to graduate students that leaves 77-78 places for general entry 1st year Biomed students.

As the guy said at the talk a few weeks back there are 360 interviews being held for those 191 places, so when you take out quotas and graduate students that leaves about 200-240 interviews for us (someone correct me if I'm wrong here)?

Regardless, it is really going to come down to the interview as that is where people have the capacity to move up or down by the greatest margin. Just be on your game and you'll be sweet.

itd make no sense to interview any more or less than exactly 2x as many places, since at that point a certain spot will be competed for by either 1 or 3 students. so id say there are a good 155 interviews for the general year. but you're right in saying that our marks wont help us now, its all gonna be on that half hour

Hi g.walker, you are right. What i meant was that they turned down people with 8.5 for medicine, not for the interview. For the interview my guess would be 7.25-7.5 this year based on medsci results (and assumptions on other papers). Also don't forget that not only the people with GPA range 8.5-9 will get in. There's still this thing called auto-entry. That's why i don't feel "sorted" lol.
