I don't reckon the muscle section was too bad, all the questions were pretty much straight out tortora. Got an A+ for 107. Only an A for chem though. Feeling pretty nervous for poplhlth, hard to tell how that went

Hey Gotta say well done on that A+. You are the first one person I know that got it, none of my friends got it either. Yea poplhlth is a bummer, taking ages to come out. Anyone know when it's gonna be out? It's driving my head in.

auckland provisional offers

hello people..
are there any international students been thru the uni of auckland provisional bhsc course and got into medicine in second year? do share your experience with me..

may want to go there.

Hey, I have been following this thread quite closely, nice to see so many from OLY 1. I'm in Auckland OLY 1 too. Guys, i was jst wondering if any weightage was given for voluntary work by the interview panel? How many of you are doing voluntary work just so that it looks good in your profile?

BTW Got A in Chem and A+ in the other two, a bit worried bout poplhlth!

I don't think there's any specific weighting given for voluntary work that you do. Rather, you can draw on your different extracurricular involvements (sporting, voluntary, cultural etc.) to answer interview questions.

So it wouldnt be disadvantageous if i didnt do any voluntary work then? I've been thinking of doing some in the upcoming semester but i have no idea how to become a volunteer, or where to apply to be one. Suggestions anyone?

Question on Auckland University

Hello there,

I have heard rumours about Auckland uni rejecting any prospective medical students purely due to a bad interview at the end of the first year. Is that true or is there actually a wighting (and so a score) on the interview that is compiled with that of UMAT and the paper grades that you have achieved, that the uni looks at and ranks them by?

hi saq17, check the undergrad requirements for nz uni thread, which has a lot of helpful info from people over the years.

For the interviews (back in my year) it normally counts for 25% of your entry grade. It is graded by 2 interviewers for general applicants. They had 5 separate grades for the interviews which were: autoentry (grades don't matter as long as you were interviewed), A, B, C, and autoreject (you don't get in no matter what your grades are - so probably what you were talking about there).

The rest of your entry marks are composed of 15% each for the 4 core papers and umat making up the remaining 75%. I'm not sure if this has changed this year so it's better to go to the info lecture in 2nd semester which they put on for people wanting to do med.

What do u mean by "provisional" bhsc course? As far as I am concerned, there isnt one..

im an international student... then i heard of studying med in uni of auckland... its not direct into medicine...

we have to go through a year of health science med. if gpa is good, we will get an interview offer and enter med if we pass the interview...

so was thinking of this route and hence would like to know more about this route to study medicine.

The entry requirements and process has all been updated on the UoA site over the last 6 months. It is now comprehensive and easy to understand. The first port of call for the kind of info you are after.

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some guidance from any current MBChB students? This semester I got A+, A and A- across my core papers, so even with an A+ for Medsci142 I can only get a core 8.25. From what I've read here I get the impression this is dangerously low. Is this correct? i.e would I need a perfect interview score to stand a chance? Thanks.
