CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

hey
just a quick question, does the 'self-addressed letter' just consist of the envelope which is stamped and has your address on it?
just asking to make sure :/

just to clarify if you don't mind, is the ATAR score a big part of the selection ie is it one of the factors that are considered when selecting and ranking students. or is everyone above an ATAR of 90 considered on equal footing and they then base it just on interview and application. what is the average ATAR score of people who got in straight after school and the average GPA of people who got in through other means.

Random question, now I think about it, I actually put I attended dental conference for a week as my experience, lol, not sure if that counts! Does CSU consider heavily on practical experiences instead of academic experiences? E.g. I attended dental conference and presented on dental materials as one of my research project.

Edit: Far out, I'm so nervous and restless, even thou it's like 2 months away! I feel my application was so shit that I only mentioned rural in like 2 sentences, even thou I am actually from a rural area! AHH! Too late to regret now! Wish I discovered MSO earlier! :bored:

Its hard to say because both your application and ATAR will both be considered when deciding interviews. The cut off is just to say if your 90 and above you will be considered. A cut off is used to set a standard and cut out applicants below that cut off. But don't take the cut off for granted. Higher the better. They do take academic results as a vital criteria when selecting students. That goes the same for GPA.

I know it will be stressful, but all you can do is wait and see. In regards to work experience, how much you did is not what matters, what you gained from it and discovered and learnt from the experience is the point. Work experience will show your interest in the dentistry field but also allow you express your thought processes and how it made you more aware of what the dentistry field is about.

hey hutcherson,
just a few quick questions..sorry if theyre a little dumb but, does someone with a higher OP or ATAR get more preference and advantage over other students with lower OP/ATAR?
also, when do we find out whether we got an interview or not? like around what month? :)
Thanks!

Interviews offer will be out at end of October to Mid-November. Your academic results aka ATAR/GPA will be looked at. A higher academic score will give you an advantage, but that will also depend on how well you went in your application.

But a possible downside to the ATAR predictions is that they're not even accurate. They don't even take into consideration the performance of your cohort, scaling etc. Some of the companies that make these predictions actually give you an ATAR that is too high or too low from my experience

Question, does "Profession Wilson" actually read all the applications. From the numbers of applications I am hearing on mso being in the 1000's I would hate to be in his predicament if that is true ?

Or is it more of a selection panel reading and the top ones go to him for final consideration ? Be interested to learn more about the selection process if anyone knows. I am looking at you Hutch ! :P

Also in regards to the previous post about academic predications, I think what you say is true to some extent. As you need to attach both your most recent year 12 reports and year 11 reports, the score they give must reflect this. I mean, the schools credibility would be put into question if for instance you were averaging C's or B's and they gave you a predicted of anything above 95-96+. Having said that people do sometimes do miraculously good in the real deal and I guess it could disadvantage this small niche.

Yes they are all read by the dean :) The interview process consists of a panel.

Does anyone know what sort of ATAR i need to get to get into CSU dent. What are the lowest ATAR's people have gotten and still gotten in?

Hey has anyone here recieved back their self addresses envelope?
