CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

they're not taking in international students this year right? would that increase the domestic intake?
No, internation and domestic intakes are independent. CSPs are government determined, and increasing international student intake doesn't decrease government funded positions.

so out of those 30-50 students offered a position, how many are rural places?
I remember vaguely last year that 50% of domestic places go to rural/ATSI and 50% to urban. Realistically, about 60-70 people get offered a place since many people reject CSU dent for dentistry in other places (as in my case when I got a late-round offer for CSU dent in late february 2020 which I declined since I already had an Adelaide place) or for medicine.

Cutoff seemed to be around 96th percentile this year... anyone know why it was so much higher this year than lasts? :(
haha its not. Only NSW applicants have received an interview yet, all other states are still waiting. But still surprising to see that the lowest NSW applicant to receive an interview is 96th. Overall, the percentiles this year have increased for a lot of courses (like UQ med) and are likely to be higher for pretty much all other courses around Australia. Im not sure why there has been such a sharp increase in percentiles this year? Maybe someone can chip in…

I know someone from VIC who got UCAT 97% received a CSU Dent invite yesterday

hey guys, i was just wondering is CSU dent offers made purely on Interview outcome for selection? or does your ATAR and UCAT matter?

on their website it says interview is offered based on atar or UCAT and THEN offers are made based on interview outcome. so is ucat and atar just a cut off to get an interview only?

thanks!!

You are an absolute legend LMG!! Thank you so much for what you do

for any csu students, may i ask why you chose csu over other dental schools. and also, what is different about csu compared to other universities? thank you in advance, just wondering for my own curiosity

not in a way that I’m glad it didn’t go well for you, I just thought it might have been only difficult for me. I hope you went well and get offered a position. Best of luck!
is it alright to ask if the CSU take into account the interview, atar/gpa and ucat in offering
positions or is it just the interview?

I believe it’s just the interview, ucat is used for interview invites and the ATAR is just a cut off. but I’m not entirely sure, can someone confirm?

You are right! ATAR and UCAT are just cutoffs for interview and place offers, but Interview is what determine the ranking of applicants.

It says that the ATAR cut off is 90 for CSU Dental Science, but how can this be if they inform applicants if they have been successful or not for a place a week after the interviews finish.

Also on the website they say that they use the UCAT to make interview invites and then the make offers based on the interview outcome.
It says this on the website...

"Selection for entry to the Bachelor of Dental Science involves selection for interview based on UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand) score or previous academic performance. Offers are then made based on interview outcome."

...and does not mention ATAR at all.

So, could I please have some further information on this ATAR cutoff, as I am unsure whether it is valid or outdated.

I don’t know much about Dent, but it’s entirely possible ATAR is just used as a hurdle (the same as it is at JMP, for example). Interview based wholly on UCAT, then offer based wholly on interview performance, but only students who meet the ATAR cut off are considered. This is how it’s done at JMP (so yes, people who interview can then go on to be ineligible on the basis of missing the ATAR requirement).

Cal can confirm.

Yup that is exactly how they do it, or at least to the extent of our knowledge. They will offer to anyone who has proven they are above the cutoff, who is high enough to get an offer in the event everyone is above it, and then in the next rounds the people who haven't gotten their scores will get offers.

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place to post but:

According to the original post, around 100 are interviewed, and 40 get in, but around 70 offers are made (due to high decline rate of CSU), so is the interview really a 70% acceptance rate? or has that changed? Surely its not that high
