CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

Hey guys,
i was just wondering if CSU has problem based learnIng? Or if they have a different way of teaching. And as it is a recently new course what the new advanced technology being used was called? And how many hours of clinical training in the beginning years because during my tour guide I heard that it was one of the few Uni's that provides its students with clinical experience earlier in the course.

Sorry for the many questions!
but thank you in advance :)

Hey Ally,

1. The teaching style varies depending on the subject. Most subjects will involve lectures, tutorials and pre-clinical or clinical sessions. The problem based learning is done by presenting case studies to the class.
2. The technology we use in our simulation clinics and clinics is from Finland and the company is Planmeca. They are units that are used in some of the American dental schools and have received great reviews.
3. Pre-clinical training is around 6-9hrs per week for First years. We do cover a lot in the first year such as Class I Amalgam restorations, Class V restorations, Indirect vision, Preventative procedures such as fissure sealants, abrasion lesions and fillings, rubber dams, dental materials such as CR, GI, Amalgam etc. I have noticed our first year has a similar structure to uq dentistry.

I hope that helps :)

Sounds like an intense first year.

Yep congrats. ^^

Hi everyone! It says on the CSU website that a Senior First Aid Certificate is a clinical requirement for dentistry. Does that mean that we need to attain one in order to be considered for a position at CSU? I'm really sorry if this question has already been asked. I haven't found any mention of it!
Cheers.

No, you will get that cert in the course. Don't worry about it yet ^^

You won't be "disqualified" from entry/consideration if you don't have the First Aid Certificate. I believe that you'll be able to do the certificate just before the uni term starts or sometime during the course itself, so don't stress. :) Hutcherson would be able to tell you more about it.

And welcome to MSO! :)

Edit: Muse beat me to it!

@mighty and avatermash: Senior First Aid Certificate and Vaccinations will need to be done before Pre-clinical simulation in July. Therefore you do not need one to be considered for a spot in Dentistry. It something you must organize yourself within the first semester of university.

I would like to wish everyone good luck for this week as interviews start tomorrow! Give it your best shot and just show who you are as a person and prove to them you are an excellent candidate for the dentistry program. Looking forward to meeting the new bunch for next year ^^.

Good luck all ^^

Hey, guys,

Do we have school buses at CSU orange? I was told at Wagga that there isn't one at Orange.

Never mind. There isn't one. I will have to buy a car then.

How do you guys get to downtown? How do you get groceries?

5min drive to town by car :) A bus goes to town every hour or so from what I recall. Driving or getting a lift with someone is much easier.
