Curtin Curtin Medicine: General Questions and Discussion

I’m aware that it has only been for WA students previously, but that doesn’t mean CMS hasn’t changed their minds for the upcoming intake.
The e-mail ZXCL quoted isn’t entirely clear, and neither is the 2021 Admissions guide. Best not to assume and just contact CMS imo. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Yes, you are right, it never hurts to contact Admissions. Although the quote above is taken direct from Curtin's 2021 Rural/Equity application form:
https://study.curtin.edu.au/wp-cont...plication-for-Rural-and-Equity-Entry-2021.pdf
But as you said, best to ask admissions.

Interstate students could still apply for the TISC EAS considerations within the general pool.

Ah yeah, thanks. Sort of figured that I would have to contact Curtin, but was hoping that somebody in this forum would have known. I'm not the actual applicant, so would CMS respond to my email?

Oh, never mind, had not read the entire thread yet. Does this bode well for my brothers chances? Does anybody know how many Equity applicants there are each year?

I’m unsure, sorry! I‘ve only seen Curtin specify the proportion of rural and non-standard applicants that they accept.
It’s probably best for your brother to reach out to CMS with these questions! Just keep in mind that they may be slow to reply as MMIs are being held this week.

Now, I've been reading up on MMI formats, and specifically Curtin's. From my understanding, there is 2 minutes reading time of the question, and 6 minutes allotted to speaking. Does this mean that if there are multiple questions, it will be written from the outset, or are there multiple questions, but one main question, and several follow up questions. Or will there be just one question per station?
I hope I'm not breaking some MMI rules here, as I don't want to know what the questions are like or what-not, it's just that I'm a bit confused on how Curtin's MMI is structured, as opposed to other uni's MMI.

I don’t believe these questions can be answered without violating the NDAs. However, candidates will be briefed on the structure of the MMI on the day by the Associate Dean.
Hope that helps!

As an interstate student, if my UCAT and ATAR scores are both higher than a WA student that has received an interview offer, can I assume that I will be guaranteed an interview offer in January (given that Curtin *supposedly* does not preference WA students)?

I'm fairly sure that's correct (unless Curtin has recently changed their way). In a previous year a Sydney student got interview with 98.70+83%ile then got a place offer too > Curtin med offers 2017

Does anyone know when Curtin releases interview offers for interstate non-rural? Thanks!

Interstate invites are usually sent out a week before the second round MMIs, so likely to be early Jan?
However, they did mention that online for interviews might be held when I was volunteering during first round MMIs. I’m not sure if this would affect invite dates.

I think Curtin said interviews are held 21-22 Jan from memory so around 14-15 Jan they should be released! Thanks :)

Interesting - AFAIK January MMI round dates are Jan 7/8.
Usually interstate round is at the same time, but it sounds like it’ll be separate this year if they’ve given you those dates? They really need to update the admissions guide. 😤

I'm looking at the dates here - I haven't got an email or anything. The 2 interview periods are Dec 5-6 and Jan 21-22 - although this was for last year (2019 to 2020) not this year.

Ahhh I see. Here’s a link for the 2021 admissions guide, current as of 5/11/20: https://study.curtin.edu.au/wp-cont...11/4293HS_Medicine-Admissions-Guide-webv2.pdf
Invites might be out sooner than you think!

Hello, just seeking a bit of advice. If (IDK if they do since they are an MMI) they ask why do you want to go to Curtin, what are some unique features of the course/uni that I can talk about? From some light research, these are the ones I have identified:
  • They promote learning with other healthcare professionals (so pharmacists, nurses etc I guess) - so I can talk about how this is pragmatic and simulates real life so it is beneficial for learning.
  • Focus on primary care - talk about why I'm interested in the GP speciality (I think this is the main primary care speciality?)
  • High quality facilities for simulation and labs.

I think these are really sensible reasons that you’ve already identified. Is there anything that appeals to you specifically about the location/lifestyle of the Curtin campus? That would be another area to focus on, I’d think.

I’d also encourage you to look into our Senior Citizen Partnership Program and see if any aspects of that interest you. 😊

Hey guys, are Curtin known for sending rejection emails for interviews or not? Thanks :)
