Curtin Curtin Medicine: General Questions and Discussion

I'm not too sure about whether or not Curtin will be sending out rejection emails, however they told me over the phone that interview invites will be sent out by the end of today!

Apparently they dont send rejection emails- "Due to the volume of applications, we regret we are unable to inform applicants who are unsuccessful in obtaining an offer of an interview" :/

Keep in mind only 40 spots are available for normal applicants (non-rural etc.) so I would guess they only interview around 100 candidates of our type - pretty rough :p

Edit: Also Idk if they discriminate against interstate in favour of WA applicants  - may make it even harder.

They haven’t discriminated in the past - there’s quite a large number of interstate students across all cohorts, myself included. :)

Perhaps check the pre-reqs and application steps to see if there's anything you've missed. If not, it'd be worth calling CMS about.
Yeah I checked all of that, and I even got an email from curtin a couple of days ago saying that they'd received my application. I might just have to call them tomorrow in that case.

Strange that I didn't get an email from Curtin with an ATAR of 99.75 and a UCAT of 3220 (99th percentile).
Did I do something wrong Curtin? 😭
Surely the combos needed didn't go up that high... did you do chemistry in high school? Because I got a curtin invite (WA applicant, not that it matters) and I had 99.85/98th so this doesn't add up. I definitely second matcha.latte's comment... call curtin and ask em wassup

I called them up (the general team not the medical admissions), and she very quickly without having to check or ask, said there had been a delay. Apparently I should get one today if not yesterday, assuming I'm eligible.

P.S I did do chemistry :)

Updated: No interview offer yet :( The medical admissions lady said she didn’t know my specific case and I’d have to email her because she was busy organising the interviews. It’s probably going to take a while for her to get back to me and even then I’d only be eligible for second round I’d assume. It’s very very strange but oh well what can you do 🤷‍♂️

According to A1 and the admission lady herself, it’s 60% selection rank and 40% UCAT. There might have been some bonuses that others potentially have that I’m not aware of, but if not, then I’m not sure why. The high standards aside, the main debacle lies in why some students with higher results didn’t get interviews, while some with lower results did.

Maybe A1 or LMG! could shine some light on this mystery.

I'm waiting to see if I get one also but I'm a non-standard graduate with 89%ile from NSW. I have seen the three interview offers and noticed they are from states other than NSW, was curious if you are from NSW? Maybe there's something different with NSW and covid, maybe they will be online and others aren't? Just a suggestion not sure.

Um I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there is a second round of interviews.

This 7-8 Jan round seems to be the last one?

Well rip then. This is so strange, hopefully a mod replies. I just don't get why some with higher results haven't gotten interviews while those with lower results have. Just seems a tad unfair. Unless of course I'm missing some programme or equity scheme, which would make sense. It's just I don't think I am.

I see you've got 99.75 & 99%ile. For that to not get a Curtin invite there must be (1) something wrong with your application, or (2) something seriously wrong with Curtin.

Don't laugh at that, I don't want to re-open the old can of worms but MSO had caught out Curtin before. They finally accepted in writing they had made a calculation error. Who knows they could be doing that again.

What came out of it? Did the student end up getting an interview/offer?!

What should I do about that. I called the admissions lady and she said to email her about my case specifically. I didn't tell her my scores, but I don't think she'd care about what they were anyways.

I agree. For point 1, I did get an email a while ago about how Curtin would be emailing about the medical interviews, and my only preference with them was Med. To add on, I check TISCed, and my UCAT number was written there too. Not sure if I needed to apply directly?? The only potential thing might have been sending my Predicted ATAR to them a while back. I remember my guidance officer sent it like 20 mins spare, but when I called them to say so, they said it didn't matter, because interstate interview offers wouldn't be out this year until after actual ATAR results were out so it didn't matter if I sent the form or not.

Uh I think she would care if she knew that the uni might be making a mistake? She might have just thought you were being pesky/anxious before. Maybe state the fact you know people with lower results got in? I think there is absolutely no way you don't get an interview with your results lol

I said so, and she said that she couldn't discuss specific people's results.

Wait so you did disclose your own specific results and she was dismissive?

Edit: According to Umatmatt888's comment I'm pretty sure they've dun goofed here! Maybe some type of error in their calculation formula as A1 suggested?
