Flinders Flinders Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

If I heard correctly over the phone, I think 27 offers were made in this round, I have no clue how many places are available tho, maybe there are less places this year... Who knows.
That's a SURPRISINGLY small number, considering that last year they made 68 in the first offer round and continued to offer a few second-round and third-round top-ups (generally for miscalculated ATARs or unaccounted-for UES). Flinders traditionally has a cohort of 30 every year, so it appears that this year they're playing it safe with the offers (only offering up to the number of seats) and will replenish as needed in subsequent offer rounds. In previous years, even when they offered double the available spots, that still wasn't enough to fill all the seats (hence why they took the risk in the first place) but maybe they're not doing it this year for COVID-related reasons i.e. "what if everyone accepts their offer?". Nonetheless, expect to see topups throughout the month as if MSO is any indication, a lot of people declined their Flinders offer this round.

The official list of all SATAC offers was just released and it conflicts with what admissions has told people - I see 68 Flinders provisional offers being made here, as is tradition.

It was the same last year, 1-2 days after offer release someone with paid access to AdelaideNow said it showed 60ish Flinders offers.

(One more example of Admissions telling us fibs, when will they stop!)

Anyone who is currently in the provisional entry medicine course at Flinders (or knows someone that is) be able to tell me how hard it is to maintain the 5.0 GPA in the first two years? Is the 2 year accelerated undergrad part really intense like at Griffith? How is the teaching staff at Flinders, are they helpful and easy to approach?
Also, how is the social life of med students at Flinders? Are there many events/activities throughout the year? Is the med cohort at Flinders like a tight-knit community or does everyone just mind their own business?
I'm from QLD so will be moving quite a long distance and I don't really know anyone in Adelaide, so I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect.
What's your experience of med at Flinders so far?

Maintaining a 5.0 GPA shouldn't be a problem at all - I personally don't know anyone who hasn't been able to. It's manageable mainly because you're taking a normal university load (4 topics each semester). So the Clinical Science part isn't accelerated in the sense that Griffith is (I believe they do 5 topics a trimester so that they can fit 3 years into 2 years). The topics you do aren't challenging; you can always select electives that suit your needs/workload.
Social life is decent - there are heaps of events that are run by the student society throughout the year. Clinical Science students can also get involved in some of these events too. In terms of being tight-knit, I guess it depends on the cohort and what you make out your experience to be. Best of luck!
