Probably once we start tertiary education then any disadvantage we faced is worth f*** all i think hahaha

I added a line you probably have not seen. You should argue that since UNSW still counts ATAR for non-standards the ATAR itself should be given the same bonus as for school leavers.

Even if I get 99.95 as my atar it’ll combine with my 6.2 gpa (97 atar equivalent) & leave me with 98.48 atar. But yeah I already emailed the guy so we’ll see what happens

Completely agree with this. The fact that UNSW includes ATAR in their calculations regardless of the amount of tertiary study one has completed (or how old the ATAR is) is ridiculous and makes no sense.

Hey guys, so I had my UNSW med interview today, and it didn’t go great. I answered all the questions, but a few of the answers were dodgy in terms of their content and there were a couple in the friendship and communities section that just didn’t display how I’d be a good doctor at all, so kinda seemed like waffle. So not feeling confident Rn to say the least :(
With a 99.70 ATAR and 99th percentile UMAT (high school leaver, no eas or rural) does anyone have an idea how high my Interview would have to rank to have a shot at getting an offer? Ik it’s an unclear question, but I’m interested to hear thoughts. Thanks guys!

If you said that with 99.0 90th%ile I'd say you have blown it, but with your scores you are still in with a good chance. Don't worry too much about it. What you can do is prepare better for the Monash interview if you are heading to one.

My UAC correspondence says something about not meeting the additional selection criteria. Does that mean I stuffed up the interview? Thanks

[No offers have yet been made to the following:
  • Pref 1 428000 B MedMD or B Arts/B MedMD at UNSW 18 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP)
You do not meet the additional selection criteria for the following:
  • Pref 2 725505 Doctor of Medicine at Western Sydney University 04 Mar 2019 (Course type: CSP)
  • Pref 4 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 25 Feb 2019 (Course type: CSP)]

What is your ATAR/GPA and UMAT? Also, definitely don’t panic, is this information represented by codes next to your preferences in your application, or have you been sent this in an email or other correspondence? Last year I had a code next to my JMP preference that indicates I wasn’t eligible on the basis of my academic results, but my GPA was 7.00 and I went on to get a first round offer, so it was clearly an error. Other people reported the same thing.

ETA: I just saw a screen cap of someone reporting the same thing. It’s slightly different to what I received last year in that I didn’t get it in an email, but I suspect the error is being caused by the same thing and that the info has been generated by UAC’s incorrect use of their own coding system. Maybe call them to ease your fears, but I wouldn’t worry too much.

ATAR: 99.6, UMAT: 97% (65, 73, 55 = 194). In my course preferences it says I'm eligible, subject to being competitive, but the correspondence said I don't meet the additional selection criteria.

***** JMP Reminder ********

Offers for the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine offered by the University of Newcastle/University of New England (UAC Code 785000) will be made in the UAC January Round 1 on 11 January 2019.

You may today have received a message against your UAC JMP preference that you are missing additional selection criteria. This is a reflection of the fact that the interview ranks (additional selection criteria) will be loaded for the January Round 1 so re not available for this round.

All academically eligible candidates who attended an interview in November / December will be considered for a place in the JMP in the January Round 11. We would strongly advise that you accept your December Round 2 (or earlier) offer to ensure that you have a place in a program in case your medicine application is unsuccessful.

Note: Accepting an offer prior to January Round 1 will not influence your eligibility for consideration for a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine offer, provided the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine is placed HIGHER in your preference list than degrees to which you have already received an offer. We are unable to consider your application if you have already been offered and accepted a program with a higher UAC preference.

If the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine is your preferred program of study, to give yourself the best chance of receiving an offer you should list the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (UAC Code 785000) program as your number one preference by midnight on Sunday 6 January 2019.

Regards

JMP Admission Team

I am confused as many...can someone decipher the meaning of the first paragraph, please? The second sentence seems to be truncated as well ("Round 1 so re not available for this round"). It is understood that JMP only offers places based on Interview 100%, once that is completed, Why this issue of additional selection criteria and selection ranks from the interview...are they considering other variables also apart from the interview in the selection equation? Rurality would have been considered prior to calling interviews and so would be Indigenous category I assume. In my UAC there is no correspondence or a marker next to my preference which is 1. I am kind of lost here.

Could this be EAS?

JMP do things a bit backwards. They interview based entirely on UMAT and then have to weed out people they interview who end up not eligible due to their academic results. While interview is 100% the selection criteria, that's only for "academically eligible" candidates, so effectively, academic results are also a part of the selection criteria but only as a hurdle. It's possible to have been invited to interview, completed the interview, scored a perfect interview result, and then still not get an offer due to academic ineligibility...

Has anyone got any interview preparation materials specific to Adelaide University Medicine and Adelaide University Dentistry?

And has anyone started a recall of this years and previous years scenarios for Adelaide Med and Dent?

Thanks guys!

Yes, sadly it happened to one of my classmates, but not sure if she aced the interview as you will not be able to find how well you performed in the interview when there is no offer due to less ATAR. I think this proportion would very less (Interview offer: ATAR <94.2). I think JMP is the only program that considers people (non-rural, no special considerations) scoring lower than 95 ATAR (>=94.2) to have a crack at the interview and getting an offer.

It remains to be seen how UCAT is going to be considered for selection in each university from 2019 onwards. Would it be better to create a UCAT consortium like the UKCAT consortium of universities and implement a single portal (like UCAS, Common App etc..) for Medicine still keeping the Rurality, Locality, EAS and other special considerations, and most importantly restrict the number of universities choices' to a max of 3 or 4 (like UCAS)? And, making UCAT mandatory across the board. Not sure if this model would work here for future generations! How UCAT score is considered for admission will differ like the UKCAT. Just pondering.

hey y'all, I got an OP 1 (ATAR 99.05), is there any chance for me at Griffith or Sunshine Coast. I just got my ATAR score back from the QCAA and am super disappointed

I’d say it’s unfortunately very unlikely. I’d have a back up plan in place and recommend you start looking at your options for non-standard and graduate entry medicine.

Unfortunately, 99.05 is very unlikely to be competitive at Griffith or USC, it hasn't been in the past. It would be competitive for other universities though assuming you sat UMAT and achieved a competitive result. It will also be competitive for Bond if that is financially viable.

Hi,
I'm from Melbourne (VCE). ATAR: 99.35 UMAT:94

JMP interstate interview dates are 23rd and 24th Jan,
But UWA interstate interview dates is on the 24th Jan.

I would like to go to both interviews, but the timing is very tight.

1) Email for JMP says "Please ensure you are available on both days".
Is this actually the case? Do the MSA and PQA last for 2 whole days?
2) Do we get a choice on the time and day for the JMP interviews?
3) Is it likely for either JMP or UWA to allow for interviews outside of the stated time?

Thanks
