(Also, they actually got back to me in 9 minutes)

That has to be a record. They probably have that answer copied and pasted into half a dozen emails every day

That is slow for an automated email answering machine. All it had to do was match your email address against UAC to know you are an applicant then scan for the word interview to send that reply. Shouldn't take 9 minutes 🤣

Does anyone know if mental health is something that they consider in applications to medicine and dentistry? Will I be at disadvantage if I have a history of depression that is recorded by my university/on my transcript? Do they look at academic transcripts?

That comes under SEAS/EAS/whatever your state uses. U might actually have an “advantage”, but u need to prove it with the appropriate documents. Have a chat with the careers ppl at your school, they should guide you through it.

Hi

I was just wondering what topics may be a good idea to do some research for in preparation for MMI interviews such as Rural health etc? If this is confidential, then disregard.

Have you looked through the sample questions people are working on in the relevant threads or the MSO Interview Portal? There are lots of great ideas and options already collated for you right there in those locations.

Depends on the uni in question. Those which don’t have NDAs have specially collated threads with past interview questions.

More broadly, it’s certainly a good idea to have an understanding of major public health issues and health inequities in the country, and certain mechanisms that are being employed to address these.

Could you please list which unis don’t make people sign NDA’s so I can look for these threads?

JCU used not to have an NDA until last year, so there are plenty of interview questions in the JCU thread. Most (if not all) of the other universities have NDAs.

You can get a pretty good feel for the sorts of questions that are asked simply by googling 'MMI questions' or 'medicine interview questions' - they don't tend to change all that much.

Interestingly, UNSW, which traditionally uses an NDA, didn't make us sign one when I interviewed last year...

The unis with relatively recently updated past questions are JCU (for medicine) and CSU (for dentistry). As far as I’m aware, all others have NDAs in place.

Are u suggesting that you could reveal some of the questions UNSW asked you?
Jks haha... unless...

How much knowledge do they expect us to know on diseases? If they don't expect any knowledge, would someone who has done the interview recommend otherwise- to have a bit of a base on common ones, HIV, Alzheimers, etc as it could help with acting stations or any other reason

none as far as I am aware. If they do give you a weird disease that you have never heard of, you can ask what the signs and symptoms are but this is highly unlikely. They try to make the questions as impartial as possible - which also means that they can't favour students who took bio in highschool over those that didn't through questions like this.

There's no assumed medical knowledge. It could help potentially if you learn the basics of medical ethics (i.e. know the pillars of Principlism) but this also isn't assumed knowledge.
