General Interview Discussion and Questions: 2022 Entry

We often held bets which school among WSU JMP Adelaide would release invites first. Usually around 20ish to end October. Sometimes two schools released on the same day and the invites thread rolled up non-stop :)

After these three is JCU 10ish November. Not long to go.
When are UQ interview invites normally released? Do you think they will go any earlier since CQU is releasing next week?

Mod Note; edited to change offers to interview invites as I assume this is actually what is being referred to...

We've also held bets as to who would be the first to stuff things up in a monumental way! Bonus years are when two or more unis all stuff up together!! :D

What kind of things have been stuffed up by the unis? It sounds interesting!

I think it was Curtin that screwed up one year? Where students with lower ATARs and lower UCAT scores were being invited to interviews than others with higher in the same scenario. I'm pretty sure I read on another forum somewhere that one student even lawyered up and forced them to admit they messed up invites. (may be another uni, don't quote me on this)

UNSW messed up interview invites once think it led to a whole additional day. Perhaps more juicy though is UQ once allowed the daughter of the then Dean of the Medical School to be admitted when she was substantially below the cut-off. The then Dean resigned however the daughter was allowed to stay in the course due to not knowing which was very believable. Whilst this admittedly was intentional fraud on part of the Dean, it was a mistake on UQ's behalf to allow such a event to take place. It was also extremely unfair to the student/student's that missed out potentially though I don't know if they were allowed to enter later on.

Wow! I just found the UQ story online. It wasn’t the Dean of Medicine though, it was the University Vice Chancellor’s daughter! The Vice Chancellor and Deputy VC resigned to avoid charges under CMC investigation. It said in the article the student in question “leapfrogged” 343 higher scoring students.

UQ VC's and scandals go hand in hand

Getting anxious, 18th week for CQU does not necessarily mean tdy right? 😓
Nope. Could (and hopefully does) mean today, but could also end up being 5pm on Friday and that would still be an accurate description. Also (and with due respect as I'm sure they're flat out), uni admissions are not routinely known for their accuracy and it's also possible 'week of the 18th of Oct' actually means 'sometime in November'.

In case anyone else was curious, just spoke with Sue from JMP Admissions:
  1. SJT is not used to determine interview invites;
  2. Exact date in 'early Nov' for interview invites has not been set yet;
  3. There will be no PQA this year;
  4. Interview dates will be assigned and they anticipate there will be clashes with some HSC exams - if this happens, we contact them and they will assign an alternative date.

Anyone spoken to WSU/Charles Sturt about if theirs are getting delayed too? Because they normally come out the same week, and in non-covid years, we'd expect to see invites come out probably around this Friday.

Why don't you send them an email and report back?

I can definitely do that, I just don't want to be one of a bunch of people bothering them asking the same question.

update:
Ok, email sent, I'll report back when I hear back
Awesome, I'm sorry re-read my response there and it sounded a little short I definitely didn't intend for it to come across that way. I was actually wondering the same thing! :)

Thanks for that!

They are apparenlty meant to come out last week of October

I contacted WSU today with that - and a couple other - questions and this was the transcript:

Welcome to Western Sydney University. My name is Fatima and I will be assisting you with your enquiry today. How can I help?

at 12:26, Oct 18: Thank you, I appreciate you are busy today. I have three questions please. For MD entry, (1) is WSU using the SJT component of the UCAT to determine interview offers? (2) do you have the exact date for when applicants will be invited to interview? (3) As the MMI interviews are held during the HSC exams, what happens in the event of a clash with an HSC exam? Thank you.

Fatima at 12:35, Oct 18: 1. Regarding the UCAT score, we will be using the overall UCAT score to rank applicants for admission. If SJT is not part of the overall UCAT score, it will not be considered. 2. The interview offers are sent out on a rolling basis- it is not only one date but we are expecting this to start in the last week of October. Interviews will be held from 1-3 December 2021. 3. Students who have a clash between HSC exams and a given interview time will be advised to contact the university and we will assess on a case by case basis.
