General Interview Discussion and Questions

Does anyone have a discord server where people do mock interviews together? I would be interested in joining and meeting a few fellow med applicants
Thanks (:

Hey! Sorry again,

But what do you mean by ‘treat’? Surely they can’t ask you diagnosis questions anyways cause you don’t know anything (yet! 🤞)
Exactly. This is exactly how I’d interpret their ‘no clinical scenarios’. I think it’s explicitly stated as sometimes people do get (unnecessarily) caught up in thinking they need to know how to approach basic clinical scenarios. Which is not the case at all.

You’re probably confused by their statement as you were never thinking they would do this!

Hey everyone, after I submitted my timeslot for CSU dent interview I received an email confirmation from WordPress that also said "You'll soon receive further details for your appointment." I never received any additional email for this although the initial offer explained the format in enough detail...did anyone else get "further details" emailed to them? eek

could i ask your atar and ucat score?

Apparently I had an issue with not completing a 'full submission' for UNSW application. I couldve sworn I filled out all the details correctly. Any chance UNSW administration will be willing to give me interview offer in these circumstances?

I know that with the UNSW MAP you get an email after submitting to say that it’s done, so maybe you could find that email to show you did complete it correctly.

Also on UAC, it should say you will be competing with other applicants for an offer if you fufilled all the requirements. So maybe check that as well?

Assuming you’ve done it all correctly, then it’s possible you’ll get an invite. I believe another user commented about a glitch that UNSW are intending to rectify with interview invites.

If there was an error in your application from your end then it’s much less likely. We have users every year who realise they’ve missed a deadline or not completed applications in full. As unis get way more applicants than they have spots to offer, I’ve not heard of someone having an error ‘pardoned’. Unis simply don’t need to do it and it just creates more hassles for them.

From what I can remember I did complete the application and all of its requirements. I emailed the university about this and they said they couldn't find an application corresponding with my UAC ID. I also realised that I never got the 'application has been completed' email.

Would this mean that a mistake has been made on my end? If so I'm wondering how this would have happened, because like I said I definitely remember filling out the entire application.

It does sound suspiciously like an error at your end, unfortunately. It could be that you entered something incorrectly (UCAT ID, or similar), or that your Internet connection timed out as you were sending and it never submitted, or you filled it out as you recall but never actually submitted it (I’ve definitely done this sort of thing before).

(By at your end, I just mean prior to its arrival at UNSW or whoever collected the data for them - not that you’ve necessarily made a mistake - though that is possible).

Usually (though not always) when we find issues at the university’s end, there are multiple people here reporting the same thing. There’s typically 2-3 events of this nature every year between Aus & NZ.

CSU 2nd round offers usually come out roughly on the week of the January 20th to 30th. Instead of releasing offers, sometimes that straight up call applicants to check that they're still interested before sending an offer. During this time period, I would recommend answering calls from unknown numbers and checking voice mail to make sure you haven't coincidentally missed the call. As far as I'm aware, this is usually the last round. They don't usually offer later third or fourth round offers (they probably call to make sure they don't need to have further rounds)

hi, i'm an international student and i've received an interview invite from UNSW, and was wondering if i could get some useful tips on how to prepare and what to expect on the day? i've never sat a panel interview before, so is it divided into sections too? and how should i time myself when practicing? i'd also love to join a mock interview session w any current med students at UNSW (if any here) or med applicants to the same uni! (Content removed). i would love to hear from you, thank you so much!

A1 replies: Except one or two schools holding rural interviews quite early, non-rural interviews are all after year12 students have finished their state exams. So typically late November to late December. The schools then do their marking and calculate the final ranking for place offers, send their ranked lists to UAC/TACs to work through preferences to determine who get what in the mid-January offer round.

You can google "uni-name medicine interview dates" to see the exact dates.

Hi guys,
I wasn't sure exactly where to ask this but I was wondering, when were WSU interview dates last year and are they roughly consistent from year to year? Thank you so much!
