UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

I called future students and they told me the same thing. Emailed med admissions but just have to wait now :(
I heard from a couple of individuals that UNSW hard capped all GPAs 6.5+ to a raw 99.5 atar, causing them to all get rejected as the 1st round ATAR requirement was 99.55. Although this makes sense, I do not understand why UNSW would do this now without any kind of warning and it is also extremely unfair for any non-standards as it makes tertiary transfer to UNSW medicine impossible (even with a 7GPA and 99% percentile UCAT) unless you had a 99.55+ ATAR initially.

There was also talk about there being issues in the system that led to IB & SAT students not receiving 1st round interviews despite having their results before the 18th of December, however these individuals were not sent rejection letters (as did all non-stds), therefore making me believe that non-stds have been essentially removed from the UNSW applicant pool.

My post concerns the Gateway Scheme/EAS (applying next year).
I am eligible for this pathway and have a few questions for anyone admitted to UNSW Medicine through the scheme.
1. It says the lowest possible ATAR and UCAT for an interview is 91, and 50th percentile respectively, which I know is probably unlikely so what ATAR/UCAT should I realistically aim for to get a CSP instead of a BMP place?
2. If I am unsuccessful at gaining admission through the Gateway Program (since 10 people max 😭) can I still be considered for the general entry pathway or is it only one or the other?
3. If I did apply through the general entry scheme, how do they calculate how much your selection rank increases due to EAS factors (I am eligible for 3 EAS circumstances for context) and historically, how much of an increase to an individual's selection rank is attributed to each EAS factor?
4. In the application questions, can I be TMI/vulnerable about my home life and how it has affected me or would this be considered crass?

I am really scared about how next year will turn out, so any advice would be much appreciated! :) Thank you. :)

Since it involves an interview it's difficult enough to say what you need to get an offer let alone specifically CSP.
My guesstimate is 99.80 (after SEAS) + 96%ile UCAT + an excellent interview.

I think (but not sure) the Gateway is a separate quota whereas SEAS without Gateway is part of the main pool.

The Gateway pool should have a lower cutoff for place offers than the main pool (otherwise what's the advantage of Gateway).
Therefore if you don't get a place offer through Gateway you wouldn't get one through the main pool anyway.

MM3 rural student w/ 2880 UCAT and 99.45 ATAR (no adjustments), interview went well, am i likely to get an offer?

The issue with non-standard applications is being raised to the supervisors of the med admissions as per a call with one of the med program specialists. Keen to see what would be done and how they explain perfect GPA's and 99%'s being rejected. Surely them rejecting all non-standards goes against them advertising this as a program non-standards can apply for?

There seems to be an issue with some other categories of students where the invites for interviews weren't sent despite results being available and eligible. I saw in this thread that there were some issues with SAT and IB applicants. I've spoken to Future Students who were aware of an "issue" but didn't know the specifics, and instructed me to email med applications (that was on 19th ), but I've been getting radio silence from UNSW. I cant access anyone who knows what's happening. Please could you give me an idea how you accessed the "med program specialists" or what their names are so I can try via switchboard? I can't believe its 3 days and not even an email acknowledgment of the issues. But thanks in advance, dude.

I think the number ending 8765 has been mentioned earlier. Try one of these others

Great job, you got really good scores! I didn't know that UNSW offered scholarships for med, could you explain how to apply?

My atar was 99.15 in 2022 so I think my GPA should be considered. I sent UNSW an email for clarification so fingers crossed

Hi ,
Can I ask if there us any clarification yet if UNSW would still open second round interviews if they sent an email that the application was unsuccessful ?
Thanks

If I started Monash Chancellor’s, but resat the UcAT- and my ATAR from this year 99.90 counted- which universities could I apply for - ( if my ucat improved), are there some that I couldn’t apply for ?

You can only apply to UNSW, WSU, JMP, JCU, Bond.

Your 99.90 will help your chances for UNSW.
Not for WSU or Bond since it's a hurdle. Not for JMP or JCU since they will use your GPA.

Didn't you apply for Griffith this year? They still accept applications till 31-Dec (although it may not be in time for the January offers but worth a try). You can also take a gap year to apply for Griffith next year.

Yes , I have applied to Griffith, not sure with the new system and adjustments of up to 0.2 for some factors what will happen, will fill in the form if I get an offer

why didnt i get unsw interview offer, when my friend with lower ucat and lower atar with no special conditions did??/
3170, 99.85
It's likely due to your UCAT 3170 94%ile.

Do you know what your friend with lower ucat and lower atar with no special conditions has?
You can lodge an appeal to UNSW if you are certain that is the case.

Just received an email from UNSW saying my tertiary results were not available to them last Tuesday (final cutoff for ranking process), hoping this is the same for all the non-standards!

Yeah, I received an interview invite at 1pm AEST. Given it is in person and I am hoping (expecting based on emails that were sent out last night) for a JCU offer tomorrow, am likely not going to attend.
