Advice needed on whether MD program is more demanding in turn of courses to studies/exams. Will MD repeats the bachelor courses study/exam routines in Year 1 and Year 2 or it is more meaningful medical and clinical courses.

Looking at UQ. If anybody has experience in UQ MD Year 1 to share will be great for comparison.

Advice needed on whether MD program is more demanding in turn of courses to studies/exams.

If you've done a non-Med undergrad degree, the typically 5-year med course is squeezed into 4 years for MD so MD is more hectic and the study years are several weeks longer (I believe some start in January instead of late Feb).

A MedSc undergrad can help make the MD year1 less stressful, but I remember chinaski or Crow saying there is little overlap between MedSc and MD year1/2.

Yep, I have a med sci degree and the overlap between it and the preclinical years of medicine was very minimal.

I also have friends with the same background who studied medicine at UQ and they had the same experience.

Thanks. Is the MD preclinical year more interesting and focus than the undergrad or they are similar to undergrad?

- 5 years ago JMP cutoff was 90%ile UMAT section 1 plus 50+%ile the other two sections.
- UNSW pivot ATAR/UMAT was 99.0 + 90%ile. An MSO member 99.95 + 85%ile got interview with UNSW saying 50% place-offer chance (i.e. with room to spare not scraping in). LMG! got interview with 97.0 + 98%ile, now 99.5+ or good-bye.

- ATAR 97 (w/ 3U/4U Maths) + 90%ile got UQ place offer no interview. So those with 97+ predicted & good UMAT knew they had UQ in their pocket in September.

Now all this inflation after the gov has added ~150 CSP places, why?

Jesus! now without 3100 (or even 97 UCAT) you ain't going ANYWHERE outside of your state! (well maybe home state gonna give you a chance, but that's 1 uni only)

Would 99.5 exactly be enough?

Based on recent years for UNSW 99.5 would need 94-95%ile to get an interview. A higher ATAR reduces the UCAT accordingly but the reverse 99.4 + 99%ile is not enough.

I see in the data thread UNSW interview for a 6.75(+SCATS, can't be anymore than 99.95 equiv right?) / 90th%ile, a ~99.60 / 93rd%ile, a 98.4(+EAS) / 93rd%ile etc.

So if your ATAR(+EAS) is at least equal to the 98.4(+EAS) or the 99.60, your 94th%ile should get an invite. If not, sue 'em

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how do the unis know that you are a non standard applicant with tertiary education? For example how would a uni (UoN, UQdent) know to take my first year GPA instead of my ATAR (considerably worse)? Maybe I'm overthinking but could it potentially happen that the uni uses your ATAR for the academic threshold rather than your GPA accidentally
And yeah I have added my university study to the relevant TACs, but I'm not sure if I have to send them transcripts or something

You have paid an application fee it is the TACs duty to process your application correctly before sending to the unis. They have permission to retrieve your academic results from your uni's database via the student number you gave.

With a fair degree of difficulty, unfortunately. This is something that happens every year. Some unis keep a small portion of places available for incoming interstate Med students but others expect you to lock in accommodation with a non-refundable deposit sometimes months in advance.

If you want on-campus or uni affiliated accommodation we recommend you contact the uni accom services the moment you have your offer and start pestering them (if you haven’t already paid a deposit).

The way the rental market is going everywhere in the country, it’s an absolute nightmare to find somewhere to live, particularly for school-leavers who don’t have a rental history or history of a stable income. I really feel for everyone who has to find somewhere at the last minute - I know how incredibly stressful it can be.

If you want on-campus or uni affiliated accommodation we recommend you contact the uni accom services the moment you have your offer and start pestering them (if you haven’t already paid a deposit).

Is there a list of the universities that keep those places reserved?
