General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Hi everyone,
I'm a grade 12 student from QLD and achieved an ATAR of 97.70. I know it will be too low to get any offers this year as I also didn't do well UCAT (82%tile). I do qualify for EAS for Disrupted Schooling and English Language difficulties. I just wanted to ask what options were as I cannot redo certain subjects in QLD. Anything will help at this point😭
Whether you start uni or take a gap year you won't be eligible for UQ/USQ/CQU next year.
I don't think EAS will help with JCU or Griffith, without it 97.70 has little chance.

Your best option is to start uni, achieve a high GPA + UCAT and apply to the non-standard schools JCU UNSW WSU JMP (and Bond in case DrLMG picks on me again).

One exception is if you can confirm with SATAC that you get UES, your 97.70 would be boosted to 99.95 and 92+%ile would get a Flinders place offer. But I feel gap year aiming for this one school is a big gamble.

My daughter is a QLD local. She achieved ATAR of 99.85 with UCAT score of 3160. She had received an MMI offer from UQ in Nov and believed it went well.

What is her chance to receive an offer to the MD Provisional Entry at University of Queensland in 2025 (non-bonded or bonded)?

Or should we choose UQ dentistry instead as she fulfils all the entry requirement.

Thank you all for the advice for her last minute QTAC preference change.

Your daughter doesn't need to know her UQ Med chance for this preference decision.

Simply put UQ Med unbonded higher pref than UQ Med bonded higher than UQ Dent.
If qualified for she'll get either Med unbonded or bonded in that order. If neither than she gets UQ Dent.

Thing to remember is UQ Dent at lower pref does NOT jeopardise her getting its place offer. If qualified for she'll at least get it or a higher pref.

Btw she'll probably qualify for a Griffith/USC offer as well. If she prefers Med to Dent put UQ Dent lower than them all.

Thank you for the advice. Since her previous QTAC preferences didn’t put dentistry as she thought her ATAR will be around 99.9-99.95 (predicted). She really wants to get into UQ med at that time, but now I think the chance is not looking good with that UCAT and ATAR as this year’s subject scaling was not as good as she expected.

Will she receive conditional offer from
UQ med school separately (via email?) in December (23/12) or it will come together with QTAC’s main round offer in mid Jan(16/01/25)?

Say if she receive UQ dentistry at the 3rd preference from QTAC, does it mean she didn’t get any offer from UQ Meds?

It's most unlikely UQ Med will release offers on 23-Dec.
The usual process is UQ Med and Dent and other schools JCU/Griffith etc send their lists of offers to QTAC first. QTAC sorts out the preferences (for those who qualify for multiple) and release offers together on 16-Jan.

This way if an applicant qualifies for UQ Med + Griffith + UQ Dent for example, QTAC will only offer them UQ Med and divert the latter two to other applicants. UQ Med may also send them an offer email on this date, the latter two won't.

Yes that would mean she doesn't rank high enough / isn't getting UQ Med *in that offer round*.

But it may come in a later round. She should leave the prefs as is and accept the UQ Dent offer *conditionally*. Conditionally means she will be considered for UQ Med in a later round, and if she gets one QTAC will withdraw her UQ Dent to give to another applicant.

Thank you for clearing up a lot of things. I was just wondering, do you think that my ATAR is high enough for bond this year or no?

___________
A1 replies: Yes 97.70 should get a Bond invite to sit the Psychometric test. Then you need to be in the top half (approx) to get an interview.

Thanks for clearing up everything! This helps us a lot for the reference change!

Hi everyone I just graduated year 12 with the following
1. a 99.65 ATAR
2. I sat the UCAT and scored horribly (2610) (55%)
3. I applied to JCU Med, Griffith Med, UniTas Med, and Monash Med (doubt this)
4. For Victoria I have SEAS (Difficult circumstances, disadvantaged school) and for Queensland i have EAS
5. I have been living in a rural address for 1.5 years
6. I am a VIC Metro Student

Can anyone tell me what are my chances are into getting accepted into all the unis I applied to. Also advice on what I should do if I get rejected from all of them, (like which pathway given my circumstances). Also when should I begin practising for JCU and Grifith Interview of I get them.

With 99.65 and 1.5 years rural you have some chance of getting a JCU 2nd-round interview. JCU will send out these invites in a week or so.

Afaik Griffith Med doesn't involve an interview. Qld EAS gives you +0.05 or +0.10 (depending on EAS level) boosting your ATAR rank to 99.70-99.75. It's unlikely enough for a Griffith offer.

This brings to the next point. Did you have two VCE subjects with particularly lower scores than the rest? If so consider resitting these two subjects to improve your ATAR to 99.85. Then with the EAS +0.05 bonus you should get Griffith next year. Advantage of this option is it's not UCAT dependent.
(But note this is assuming Griffith isn't changing its selection method. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I remember seeing Griffith's pre-announcement of a change but don't see it on website anymore).

With this resit gap year, if you score high UCAT next year you're eligible for Monash to make use of the Vic local's advantage, plus other schools except UQ/USQ/CQU.

If you don't like taking a gap year then start uni and try the non-standard pathways for JCU UNSW WSU JMP Bond.

Given your ATAR and rural address, you might be eligible under the Regional and Remote Entry Scheme (and possibly MySydney for Low SES) for the USYD Double Degree Medicine Program (either BA/MD or BSc/MD).

If you have submitted a UAC application WITH a USYD preference on there AND have received correspondence from USYD that you are eligible for the Regional and Remote Entry Scheme OR MySydney, then I strongly recommend that you put USYD Med as a preference (BY 15 DECEMBER) to give you a shot at the assessment day.

If you haven't put down USYD as a preference, I'm not exactly sure if it is too late to do so as the correspondence of eligibility will be too late. You are more than welcome to submit an application anyways (BY 15 DECEMBER) and see if you get invited to the Assessment day, otherwise, you might be out of luck for USYD medicine.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ASSESSMENT DAY IS IN-PERSON so be prepared to fly in to Sydney if you do get an invite.

Oh my god I didn’t submit a UAC application because I didn’t know that existed. Is there anything else I can do or do I still have hope for anything.

It would be extremely expensive to submit a UAC application now since it is beyond the Early Bird date. That said, I can only say submit at your own risk/accord because I can't really guarantee you that the entry scheme is still applicable this late and this close to the deadlines and all that.

Do you know what dates assessment day typically is

Do I need to apply to anything else other putting it on my UAC application like applying for that MySydney or the Regional Remote Entry Scheme or to prove my residence or anything
I would recommend you read all the available information online as it can answer a lot of your current queries. I am going to reiterate this again so that it is not my responsibility if you do spend hundreds of dollars on your application.

Hello

My atar is 89.90. I wanted to apply to medicine. What are my chances in under grad program? If this program is not for me, then what other pathways should I be taking with this ATAR? Also, please explain non-standard pathways and how many places are allocated for this pathway.

Thank you.
Are you looking at Monash? The min atar is 90 so I think you will need to look at postgrad options sorry

I think vic Monash will not be likely sorry

Hi everyone

I'm really freaking out. I just received a raw ATAR of 91.35, which is so much lower than I was expecting I'm rural MM2 and RA2 and interviewed at Adelaide uni, Monash uni, SQ uni, CQU uni, uni of Queensland, UNSW, and JMP. I'm eligible for bonus points 2 in Queensland, 4 in Tasmania, between 2-10 for NSW, and for Monash with SEAS, my ATAR works out to be 96.45. My UCAT was 70th percentile and I felt I did really well in the Monash interview and UNSW interview. I'm just wondering if I have any chance at an offer anywhere SA is my home state and if anyone has any suggestions about yr 13 vs entrance from uni.

Thank you !!!
