General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Hey guys, I need some advice. So I want to apply for medicine at WSU for 2026 entrance, unfortunately I did not get a good atar (90), but I am thinking of applying through my GPA in my first year of speech pathology at WSU. Should I still try or give up on medicine? And do they prefer ATAR over GPA?

Got an offer from UTAS for med this morning, but it says i have to be enrolled by the 1st of Jan, however, i’m waiting for monash offers in Jan and UNSW offers. I called the university admissions to ask if it will affect my application at Monash if i enrol at Utas. She said she would have to refer me to medicine admissions and I wouldn’t hear back until January as there is a university closure from tomorrow until the 2nd. Does anyone know if enrolling at UTAS will kill my chance of getting in at Monash? UTAS said it would be fine and I could withdraw later but i’ve been told in the past if I enrol that’s it and my stat is gone.

Congrats. Each state is separate so it shouldn’t make ant difference. What were your ATAR and UCAT? I’m presuming you are interstate?

As long as its before the census date, which varies by uni, you can unenroll from UTAS and accept Monash is what I've heard

hello, does anyone know what the chances of getting an offer from la trobe dentistry are given that i have a 99.95 selection rank, i am non-rural interstate (nsw) and a high school leaver applicant? thanks :)

Hi everyone, I'd love if anyone can provide some advice on my course preferences. I'm a grade 12 student from Queensland with 99.55 ATAR (+2 adjustment points) and 3140 + 656 SJT UCAT. These are my current QTAC preferences:

1) UQ medicine
2) UQ dentistry
3) Griffith dentistry
4) UQ Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (backup)

I meet the guaranteed ATAR requirement for the UQ finance course, which means if I place this course first in the December round, I'll certainly receive an offer. UQ admin suggested for me to do this, conditionally accept the offer, and then rearrange my preferences back into my desired order. I'm confused about the benefits of this approach. Wouldn't I just be wasting a free preference change?

Also, if I conditionally accept an offer, it doesn’t automatically decline when I receive an offer for a higher preference, right? Can I still choose to enrol in the conditionally accepted course and reject the new offer? Thank you! :)

This^ can be different between the TACs but generally:
If you qualify for the 4th pref *in the Dec offer round* two ways can happen
1. QTAC says you have 1st to 3rd prefs not yet determined so the 4th pref offer is put on hold, or
2. Since 1st to 3rd prefs don't participate in the Dec offer round, QTAC sees 4th pref is your highest & offers it to you.

I think with the conditional acceptance QTAC will do (2). Which means you can leave 4th at 4th to save a pref change.
(And even if QTAC does (1) the 4th pref offer is only on hold until the Jan round, then you'll get at least it or a higher pref).

Also, if I conditionally accept an offer, it doesn’t automatically decline when I receive an offer for a higher preference, right? Can I still choose to enrol in the conditionally accepted course and reject the new offer?
It's implied in the conditional acceptance that if you receive a higher pref in a later round, QTAC will take back your previous offer to give to another applicant. Otherwise you can sit on both offers while other applicants don't get one.

You can definitely accept and then withdraw if necessary, this is very very common.

Congrats on your offer! Please fill this offers forum form out for data collection, it would be much appreciated:

Hi,
I have a couple of questions if someone would be able to help me. I am working on my preferences for Medicine. I managed to get 99.90 ATAR ( Ucat 3000 😔). ( NSW Metro)
Does anyone know if it is possible I may get a UTAS or a Monash offer , interview of course for Monash, or a Flinders offer ? I have searched through some of the past interviews/ offers and I can’t tell.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

Unfortunately no good news.
I'm not familiar with UTas selection criteria.
Flinders offer requires 99.95. Monash interview unlikely due to UCAT 87%ile interstate.

99.90 should get you Griffith if you have applied. If not you can submit a QTAC application before 31-Dec - it may not be in time for a January offer but worth a try. Also consider UMelb Chancellors.

Hi Jcu was supposed to send out second round interview offers today. My qtac says satisfied, but no email. Has anyone heard form JCU?

Thank you. I have family in Melbourne so I was thinking of Melbourne
I was also thinking of UMelb Chancellor’s, I am a bit apprehensive about the MMI at the end of third year. I am then wondering if the GAMSAT , if I did it as a back up , may be like the UCAT ? Or is it completely different? Thank you for all the help!

Guys what are my chances for UTas med honestly. I achieved a 99.65 ATAR + Special Consideration. I am non rural interstate. But I also heard that apparently they have extra places this year

Hey, what are my chances for Monash Med as a local applicant? ATAR: 99.30, UCAT: 3400. I also have the Monash Guarantee if that helps.

I have the same ATAR as yourself at 99.30, but my UCAT is lower at 3260. I am eligible for SEAS (medical). Assuming I have done a decent interview, I have also been wondering what are my chances to be accepted into Monash med.
