Hey,
does anyone know if UNSW straight up rejects applicants in this offer round and/or if there’s a wait list students are made aware of?
I received an email saying I didn’t make the cut-off for this round but “there is still a possibility of receiving an offer in UAC’s subsequent rounds”. Not sure if this is just a formality or if there’s a difference between rejection and whatever this is.

Hi, maybe this could help...last year I had UNSW first pref and I didn't get an offer from them in round 1 but a similar email which said

"While your rank has fallen below the cut-off for this UAC round, there is still a possibility of receiving an offer in UAC’s January Round 2 or subsequent rounds."

I then got an offer from them in round 2. However, I know some other people who didn't get an offer in round 1 but had a different email which said that they are unlikely to receive an offer in future rounds

Hi there looking for some advice!

I'm a VIC standard applicant with a 99.6 atar (+ SEAS) and a 2980 UCAT, while I only got one interview- for monash - due to my low UCAT score i haven't received an offer yet and I don't think I will (i don't know if Monash does multiple offer rounds for Victorian students).

I have a few options:
1. take a gap year to redo my UCAT and an atar subject to boost both and apply everywhere
2. Start a biomed degree at Uni of Newcastle, while retaking the ucat, as I've heard that biomed students at UoN are assessed under the rural threshold and therefore it is easier to get an interview (is this true???) and apply to the limited places that take non standard entry (for context i have a scholarship at UoN)
3. do biomed at monash and take UCAT again - if it doesnt work revert to postgrad


MY initial reaction was to do option 2 but I dont want to make my ATAR redundant as it is relatively competitive and im not sure about limiting the amount of places i can apply to, happy for any and all advice relating to this ))

If 2 is your preference there are multiple universities beyond UoN that have this kind of scheme or similar. I’m personally not recommending it as a course of action but if it’s the type of set up that appeals to you then you should look more widely including
Monash
UNSW
Curtin
UAdel
UTAS
Probably others.
All have preferential pathways for their own students. All of which are incredibly competitive and usually based on you doing often quite useless, expensive, non-career degrees like Medical Research or Bio Med. Though I think Monash might also include Physio, maybe??

Not for everyone but in your particular circumstances being Vic local & 99.6+SEAS, a gap year is a reasonable choice.

Starting uni going non-standard you will need 95-97%ile to get an interview from UNSW WSU JMP.
The UCAT rural threshold for UoN Biomed I'm fairly sure it's only for those who have completed the degree

A gap year with 92ish %ile would give fair chance of a Monash offer. 95-97%ile would enhance the chance further in addition to possible UNSW WSU JMP Adelaide Curtin interviews.
Also check if your EAS qualifies for SATAC UES for Flinders next year. All the best.

Not eligible for SATAC UES as interstate.

Monash 2nd round used to be for interstate only. I don't know how Monash does it now to comment on your chances.

Whether redo a few VCE subjects or start uni depends. How much is Monash's location a priority to you versus WSU, JMP?

If you can go interstate, start uni and try to lift your UCAT to 97+%ile for WSU, JMP.
If interstate not possible take gap year try lift your ATAR to 99 raw + SEAS, UCAT to 97+%ile, go for Monash again.

I sat the interview in Dec but didn't get an offer on Thursday and the email said: "Unfortunately, your application has not been successful on this occasion because you have been ranked below the threshold required for an offer. Please note that we do not disclose exact rankings to applicants."

And in the end they said: "You may consider reapplying for entry into UNSW's Medicine program for 2026. Application dates will be updated on our website by April 2025."
Does this definitely mean I won't be considered for subseq rounds?
So desperate bruh because this is the only financially viable med option for me.

If the wording doesn’t include the phrase mentioned by several users above re. the possibility of receiving an offer in subsequent UAC rounds then unfortunately I’d think it’s not very likely/probably not likely at all. I recommend you take some time to be disappointed (totally legit response) but then move forward with your back up plan and if (very very big if) you do get a later offer it will be a nice surprise rather than something you’re desperately counting on.

Hi, so sorry I'm not too familiar with gateway applicants but I think what DrDrLMG! said is probably best course of action. Maybe don't expect anything from UNSW this time round due to the wording of the email but who knows, you could get lucky!

My child is currently studying in Canberra (ACT) and is interested in pursuing a career in medicine. During a discussion with friends, they mentioned that states give preference to students who studied within their own state. This means that if ATAR, UCAT, and interview scores are the same, local students might be prioritized over those from interstate. I wanted to check if this is accurate and hear from anyone in Canberra (ACT) who can share their thoughts or experiences on this topic. I am bit concerned that kid will be disadvantaged as there are no undergraduate medicine in ACT and will be considered interstate student.
