General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Yes, I got an offer to study at Notre Dame University this year and it needs 3 years of biomedical science plus 4 years of doctor of medicine. I also find the biomedical science part completely unnecessary, but it's the only medical offer I got 😢
u could try and get into postgrad med in ur home state by doing gamsat and using the gpa of ur biomed degree. also u could try do the ucat again and transfer into like jmp wsu unsw uadel dent etc. that way it could be cut down to 6 yrs total depending on what offer u get

Hey,
does anyone know if UNSW straight up rejects applicants in this offer round and/or if there’s a wait list students are made aware of?
I received an email saying I didn’t make the cut-off for this round but ā€œthere is still a possibility of receiving an offer in UAC’s subsequent roundsā€. Not sure if this is just a formality or if there’s a difference between rejection and whatever this is.
hi! i received the same email from UNSW during Jan Round 1, and unfortunately didn't get in for today's offer round, but got the same email sent again to me. i was wondering if you got in through this round or are also in a similar situation? good luck regardless though!

I am not sure whether this is the right spot to ask
My daughter had the interview for WSU medicine in December but haven't had offer yet.
Is there any chance that she has the offer after two rounds?
If she has the chance,is it that she has to go to CSU Orange campus?
Thank you!

I know some people last year who received very very late phone calls from WSU and were able to receive a spot (bonded and at Campbelltown as that was the campus they preferenced). So, I would say the chance exists but is unfortunately very unlikely. It would heavily depend on people withdrawing or turning down their offer for whatever reason.

All the best

Thank you for your quick reply!
By saying'very very late phone calls from WSU', when was it?Because my daughter has had an offer from UNE unbonded.
If say my daughter has the same offer bonded and at Campbelltown, which one is better?
prons and cons?
Thank you!

If she receives that second offer she should post here if still undecided, providing the necessary information.

At present though, a WSU offer shouldn’t be relied upon and she should plan to start UNE/source accommodation, etc.

Congratulations to your daughter.

I only know of 2 people and only one personally who got his on Jan 31st.

For the answer to your other questions I'd direct you towards DrLMG's response.

we are planning to UNE
Since UNE is far away, we are still expecting an offer from WSU

You said you know one personally who got his on Jan 31st. Did he receive an email or phone call? I noticed that the first time you answered my question you said'received very very late phone calls from WSU'. Nomally, they send offers via email, right?

You could hope for it as a back up plan, but I definitely wouldn’t be expecting it at this stage unfortunately.
Thank you!
It is a back up plan.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

The closer it gets to the start of semester offers are made via phone with the individual often given ~24 hours to decide (or even asked for an on the spot decision). This is so that the unis can rapidly move through lists to fill vacancies. If the phone offer is accepted, it’s confirmed via email and then via UAC.

Thank you! Learned a lot:clap:

Hey everyone, I have a few questions about med admission to UQ and Griffith. Right now, I am taking Business, Psychology and Biology in the IB.

It says UQ requirements for provisional entry is just English and an altar of 95+. Does this mean I can get away with taking subjects I love which will guarantee me a high ATAR? Or does a high ATAR mean nothing if I didn't take chemistry.

The Griffith requirements are "One of Biology, Chemistry or Physics". I'm taking biology, but are applicants who take chemistry instead be chosen over me or preferred?

I'm having doubts about taking chemistry because I don't think I can get an ATAR as high. Would a bridging course suffice if they prefer chemistry?

A minimum of 95 does not mean a 95 is competitive. You should always find ways to maximise your IBAS score.

This is not a requirement. Please learn the terms "prerequisite" and "assumed knowledge"/"recommended studies". You will come to terms with these words when you read about degree and their requirements.

Please read what I said above^^

If a target uni for you doesn’t require chemistry (as is the case for both Griffith and UQ, but is not the case for, say, UTAS and JCU) then you definitely don’t need it.

Thank you so much for your reply! I actually didn't notice this was assumed knowledge until you pointed it out. Thank you again for that!

Hi all,
I hope this email finds you well.

I am a student from New Zealand who graduated highschool last year (2024) and am planning on taking a gap year this year to redo my UCAT and re-apply to some of the schools where my pre-requisites were not met.

I was just wondering which schools (if I could find or if there was a list anywhere) in aussie (assuming my UCAT score is well enough to be invited for an MMI) would accept my ATAR of 99.50, despite the fact that I will have taken a gap year by the time applications close?

Kind regards.

Thanks for this information.
Can I ask if someone has received a WSU offer after the UAC Feb round offers were released ?
