I’m confused. Are you a current 2nd year student? You’ll get to the MD as long as your GPA is 5 or above. Once you’ve graduated the MD your grades will be meaningless.

Yes, I am a current 2nd year student (international) in Griffith. Good to here that once graduated the MD, the grades will be meaningless. In regards to the Medical Science grade determines the condition of bonded or non-bonded placement, I heard that for those international students, we will provided with all bonded placement regardless to our grades (this info was from a Chinese forum). Is this correct information?
International students won’t be given bonded places at all.

Just out of curiosity, how do they determine which international students get internships? Is it based on uni marks or some sort of national exams?
It's slightly different between the states. Basically internships are allocated on Priority categories and int'l students are Cat 3 or Cat 4 (after domestic instate graduates, returning to home state graduates, interstate graduates etc).
NSW is by preference matching. An int'l grad despite Cat 4 can get an internship if they pref a network that few Cat 1-3s want to go to.
QLD I believe Cat 2-4 are on equal footing and allocations are on merit.
WA has had a high number of interstate students wanting to return home thus not taking up WA internships, leaving enough spots for all WA int'l grads (not sure about this year though with the additional 60 from Curtin).
VIC we heard from pi when he was around that all Vic int'l grads got internships. SA/TAS no idea.
EAS is not counted for Griffith Medicine so the requirements wouldn't change
How would they select who goes to Nathan when GC is inevitably oversubscribed? ATAR? Random ballot? Or they don’t care about class sizes?
But they’ll still need a means of differentiating students when one location is inevitably oversubscribed, and that’ll have to be ATAR, yeah? So it’s better in that it won’t take up multiple QTAC preferences, but the effect will be the same in the end, won’t it? Those Unis you mentioned all use a ranking method to determine who goes where, but they have multiple means of doing so (likely interview performance only for JMP, etc). Unless I’m missing something about the Griffith process? (quite possible!)

From someone who is currently a first year med sci at nathan. Here’s what we’ve heard from our program director:
Nathan med sci from next year will become a bit more aligned with the Gold Coast med sci degree.
This doesn’t mean much, besides from the couple subject changes in first year, though really just the same content. I can guess this probably has to do with them wanting make it a single ATAR thing maybe. Nevertheless, you can see how the Nathan programs courses have changed on the med sci degree page now for next year, and it’s a fair bit more similar to Gold Coast.
NOTE: none of this was directly quoted, and was just what our program director said at orientation earlier this year, so we’ll see how it goes I guess.

for qtac this yr, they were still seperate qtac codes, so I only could apply to the nathan campus not having enough preferences.

What is the difference between Med Sci at Nathan v GC anyways? Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but whatever. I know it's only minor differences but just curious since I'm going into Nathan Med Sci next year. Thanks

Afaik the main differences are : (1) Location relative to home, (2) Some lab/facilities are somewhat better at GC, and (3) Most importantly at GC you can ocean surf, at Nathan only lawn surf

I wouldn't say there is an awfully large difference besides from location (as someone who is at Nathan). The facilities have been upgraded a tad and some a very new (for example the N79 Chem lab that we can use this Trimester), though some I'm sure will be a bit less 'high tech'. The course structure is a little bit different currently, though they're changing that so next year it is very well aligned with GC (so much so that us second years by that time next year will be taking one of the same subjects as the first years in Tri 1 next year). I wouldn't stress about the different campuses though, everyone here at Nathan loves it, everyone talks and gets along, plus the forest drive up to the campus every morning grows on you super quick.

For NSW applicants, would they have a different ATAR cut-off for us because we will be receiving our atar results in late January ?
I think Griffith will make an effort to ensure thr ATAR cut-off is similar for NSW applicants through allocation based on prior admission

Hi, I just had a question about the part saying that 'a GPA of at least 5.0 will progress to MD'. What's a GPA of 5 equivalent to (I know it's quite low but is there an approximation) and what does this refer to. Eg, does this mentioned GPA refer to that given for each of your courses at the end of trimester which must each meet this requirement / is an 'overall' GPA given at the end of the trimester which must be 5 or above...etc? Thanks
