Griffith Griffith Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

Can't I enroll if I do not meet the English prerequisites?
Has anyone enrolled on the condition of attending the English Bridge course?

Are you only trying to enrol now? We’re headed into week 3!

You need to meet prerequisites before enrolling, in fact, you won’t be offered a place in the first place if you don’t have the English requirement ticked off.

A low chance for change but it's possible because this is dependent on the faculty. They could introduce Interviews but that would add to cost. Adding the UCAT is unlikely as any changes are normally already announced. Though this is entirely up to the discretion of the university so they can change requirements as they like
I'm taking a gap year because I didn't have the English prerequisites. As of now, there aren't any additional admission criteria for 2022 intake correct (like interview/ucat)? Anyone know how likely it is they will add something for 2022? Thanks

It hasn't changed yet but usually admission changes occur much later in the year.

Although... Griffith had given a large amount of heads up to its changes in the dental program.... I don't see why they wouldn;t do the same to med. Although Universities rarely act with rhyme or reason...

Hey guys, with regards to the prerequisites, the website said this: "English, English as an Additional Language, Literature or English & Literature Extension (Units 3&4, C)".

Having completed the VCE, I have only done just English 3/4, but the way they phrase it seems like I need two English subjects (English and Literature).

So the question is, is just completing English enough?

Completing English is enough, you can complete any number of those three subjects as long as you do at least one of them. For example I only did Literature, while many other people only did English. It’s pretty much to make sure you have the basic English requirement needed. In short, only doing English will be more than okay.

Hey guys, don't know if this is the right place but I am in grade 12 and trying to decide what Uni to go to and my friend was saying that he wanted to go to Griffith MD because you can a PhD course there that you cannot do in UQ. I was just wondering if anyone know anything about this course like its benefits for your career and if it's a reason to go to Griffith instead of UQ?

You can do a MD-PhD program at uq as well...
The main benefit to griffith is that the total length of their program is only 6 years compared to minimum 7 at uq. You can look at the lack of uct and interviews as a benefit too but this does mean that the atar cut-off is ridiculously high.

Theres the option of an intercalated MD at UQ and Griffith, but what is usually word of advice for whats most advantageous in your career is doing it once you get out and get your foot in the door of the speciality you're interested so you can have more interesting/valuable to your actual specialty doctorate.

The main disadvantage of Griffith is that you dont know if you're CSP or BMP until 2 years in...

If you're in Brisbane I'd recommend going to UQ, if you're from the GC i'd recommend Griffith, SC I'd recommend USC, but if you're moving to the Area the best probably choice is:
  1. UQ CSP (7 years but unbonded)
  2. Griffith (6 years but insecurity over bonded/unbonded)
  3. USC (7 years but insecurity over bonded/unbonded)
  4. UQ BMP (7 years and bonded)

Personally I’d really struggle to commence clinical years after 2 years out doing a PhD when you then have to get back into the medicine rhythm as well as juggle the clinical years and completing a PhD too. Props to people that manage it but there are far more cons than pros to it in my eyes.

Thanks
Realistically, would they have announced it by now or is there still a chance that it can change?
Yeah its a pretty big change so they usually announce it in advanced. Things they change in the short term are like weighting of the sections or their use of algorithms, I'd say Griffith would be a safe bet this year

I just talked to a domestic applicant who said he got 99.85 last year with a gap year but was rejected from Griffith last year. Does a gap year affect his chances? He also said his English was poor and that might have affected prerequisites? A quick look through the Medical Science website hasn’t really answered my questions

We don’t believe a gap year affects your chances at provisional entry to Griffith (only UQ). I can’t recall the Griffith pre-reqs but I assume with an ATAR of 99.85 that he didn’t fail any year 12 courses? ETA: did he do English at an appropriate level?
