Griffith Griffith Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

I know of 2 local students who received an offer from USC mid December 2023. They are apparently allocating 5 out of the 20 places to Sunshine Coast students. You will need to confirm this. Might explain why the remaining places will need an ATAR to be higher than other years due to decreased places.

Yep! I'm still waiting for interview invites from Monash and Curtin and Tasmania hasn't replied to me yet, but I think I'm going to accept and enrol! I've been awarded 2 scholarships at Griffith too and I love the structure of the course

i applied early for usc (i.e. before the recommended date of 8 dec) but a bit later than that for griffith (before 29 dec though). doesn't add up 😭

ATAR cut-offs for 2024 have just been updated on Griffith's website — 99.80 for GC and 99.85 for Nathan!

A1 is this the first time Nathan's ATAR cut-off has been higher than GC's?

===================
A1 replies: Yes, first time I hear of that Nathan is higher than GC.

Wait would there be 2nd round offer for Griffith, cause my atar for the GC campus is on the dot?
Does "on the dot" mean you have 99.80 but no GC offer?
We have had debates on MSO how Griffith manages the cutoff eg. after 99.85 GC has 7 places left but 20x 99.80s in the queue, how does GC decide which applicants get these 7 places. Maybe they have a way to split the 20 into 99.81, 99.82 etc.

Regarding further offers, since Griffith has no interviews they are not holding back any places for round2 interviewees. If there are enough declines they may do a mini round2 offers, or individual top-ups on any dates (which have occurred in previous years).

My guess is the cutoffs will be the same this year - 99.85 for Nathan/GC, 99.80 USC.

Otoh I hear IB scores are quite lower this year compared to last year. If that results in fewer IB44-45 applicants to Griffith it could be 99.80 Nathan/GC, 99.75 USC.
I got Griffth GC with 99.80

for sure,i will decline my offer.
Some of the provisional med courses don’t offer additional places in the case of declined offers because they can make up the numbers in two/three years with the graduate entry cohort. They definitely may, and I think I’ve seen UQ do it a little bit (like, one or two late offers reported here), but it’s not like they have to fill a cohort like undergrad med courses do, just FYI so people don’t get their hopes unrealistically high…

does usc care about adjustments. I thought they only look at ATAR?
I contacted them prior - in October, turns out USC actually MAY consider a rural student with a lower ATAR, but it has to be above 99. So I’m guessing I was below minimum for metro but competitive rurally?

Just know Nathan is in Brisbane . I thought it is in rural area. I put gc as my first preference and got it. My atar is 99.9. Can I change my campus from Gold Coast to Nathan if I choose Griffith? Thanks.

I don’t believe so as it’s based on QTAC preferencing which has now closed. You’d need to contact Griffith directly to request consideration of a swap but, tbh, your lack of research isn’t really their problem so they’d be under no obligation to do so.

Any other differences between this two campus besides geographical location. Thanks
