Griffith Griffith Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

For Qtac applications, I understand that I will have to rank my preferences of being either at the Gold Coast or Nathan campus for the bachelor of medical science when I apply. Basically, I am an overseas domestic student so will need accommodation. From my research, the student accommodations at Nathan campus were wayyy cheaper and from what I’ve heard better than the ones at Gold Coast campus (I’ve seen some negative reviews of the Griffith university village in gold coast) - my parents are quite wary about me going overseas to study so they want me staying in university student accommodations. However, if I do the bachelor of medical science at Nathan campus, does that mean for the 4 years of the doctor of medicine I will be based in Sunshine Coast? How do they decide whether you will be at the gold coast campus or sunshine coast during your Doctor of medicine years? Any reply would be appreciated :)

Firstly, if you choose to do Med Sci at either the Nathan or the Gold Coast campus, you will be doing the Doctor of Medicine in the Gold Coast campus i.e. Nathan students will move to Gold Coast after 2 years. If you do Med Sci at the Sunshine Coast campus, you will be doing a separate Doctor of Medicine degree on the Sunshine Coast campus. I would suggest doing Med Sci at the Gold Coast campus. Its a much better location, with an arguably better campus and resources. Plus, if you chose the Nathan campus you'd be ultimately moving to Gold Coast after 2 years anyway.

I'm currently first year Med Sci on the Gold Coast campus, and I've had an in person look at pretty much all the student accommodation options. I do agree that Uni Village is no good, it gives of mega frat house vibes and the management will try to scam you at any opportunity they get. I'm staying at Smith Collective which I have nothing but good things to say about. It is rather pricy, however I feel the price is well justified. If you're looking for something more affordable, look into University Square or Metro on Central, both are pretty good locations for the price. If you want any more help feel free to PM me.

Hey guys,
Are the 99.8 for sunshine coast minimums and 99.85 for Griffith inclusive of Rural students? i.e. it is not dropped by anything for rural applicants?

Yeah they're the historical entry mark for metro students.

Rural students apply through the GU Rural Priority Access scheme. We dont get too many applicants here so dont know the historical scores.

I thought there is no rural priority access scheme for griffith medicine? I know they have it for griffith dentistry tho.

Okay sweet, I'm aiming for a 99.8 to try and scrape through if I can, Just need these next few externals to go well.
Thanks for that :)

Good point. Its for post-grad MD only

I swear we had a previous MSO applicant use rural entry. I will go searching for it.

is this the correct QTAC preference for medicine at Griffith? There is also a course for B Biomedical science that is at Griffith’s Nathan Campus, should I also put a preference for that course as well?

It's one of the three prefs for Griffith provisional. The other two are Nathan and Gold Coast (vs this USC).

That’s medicine at Sunshine Coast - the entire course is delivered by the University of Sunshine Coast but the doctorate is provided by Griffith.

Edited by A1: It's not a Doctorate, it's an MD (comically aka Master of Doctoring).
Yessir - apologies -Aaron

I didn’t know there is 3 campus. Is it too late to add on other two? Thanks

A1 replies: I believe Nathan/GC can be added up to 10ish December. Check in Griffith BBiomed webpage.

To clarify, the Bachelor of Medical science which is what progresses you directly into the MD is course code 228272 for nathan and 233422 for GC. The bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith will NOT progress you directly into the MD, you'd have to apply for that as a postgrad. (i think, please correct me if I'm wrong)
Also you have until the 8th of december to apply.

Hiiii, so basically I am an NZ student hoping to gain entry into the Bachelor of Medical Science in 2024 at Griffith which I understand is an extremely competitive course with limited numbers. However, my results come out later so I miss out on QTAC's January first offer round so I was wondering what are the chances of me getting an offer in subsequent rounds and if anyone knows if it has occurred in 2023????

Hi I am confused . I applied Griffith medicine. They only have bachelor of medical science . Did not have “provision “ course code are 233422 ,228272. Am I right?

You’re not eligible for Griffith provisional Med if you have a tertiary record. I understand you have already started Physio and switched to Science.

Hi, QLD nonrural student here. My ATAR just came out and I got a 99.90 which I really wasn't expecting! Unfortunately I only added on the Sunshine Coast campus before the cutoff date (8 Dec I believe) and the rest of my preferences went to places like UQ, JCU etc. because I didn't think my ATAR would be good enough.

Would it be unwise to take off JCU right now and add on another Griffith campus? I haven't received an interview offer from JCU yet but they said there would be around 100 interview offers coming out again on the 22nd Dec. I understand that my application might not be considered for Griffith so what would be the best option? Are second round Griffith offers likely?

Also forgot to mention I have completed interviews for CQU and UQ campuses which take up 4 of my preferences.
