Griffith Griffith Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

with the IBs coming out again, it seems many people are getting 99.95s and my friend who did IB this year and got a 44.5 (99.75) said that if she appealed she would get a 99.95 - which honestly seems a bit wacky to me!!

and i just saw that there isn’t a cap on the number of people who can get 99.95s which is scary ahahha

but yea my sisters a bit stressed again seeing as many people in IB are doing amazingly again this year - fingers crossed 99.85 is enough again this year!
"44.5 (99.75) said that if she appealed she would get a 99.95" lol what? you can appeal in IB? Broken system.

You can appeal but that allows for remarking not a straight increase. The remarking goes both ways though and does not guarantee an increase

Yeh remarking itself is very broken. Like for HSC you can't get a remarking why should IB be able to? Such an unfair system in so many ways.

or like if you get it remarked in ATAR the most you can plausibly increase is 0.05 of your ATAR, whereas you can increase from a 99.75 to a 99.95 in IB, that honestly seems so unfair!

Hi, I've got some questions for Griffith med students:

1. In Trimester 3, is it truly possible to go home at the end of T2 and come back at the end of T3 to sit any exams? Like has anybody actually attempted this? I'm interstate so I would much like to go home and see my long distance bf.

2. For the same reason above, in MD, are the breaks pretty decent as in you don't have to study during that time? Or is the course content carried on?

3. On the medicine calendar, what sort of people sit def/supp exams?

Thanks!

1. Yes. Take 4 courses and 5 during both tri of year 2 (2 electives, interpersonal and epidemiology in tri 3 and delay pathology to tri 1)

2. Not sure, first year med sci student
3. P sure if u fail exam

Thanks for the reply. So would pathology replace the elective in tri 1 of year 2?

Also, I saw that epidemiology in tri 3 of 2022 was blended, so how could some people still do it online?

Oh wait I got this mixed up sorry. The people doing it COMPLETELY online are doing research project, 2 electives and interpersonal. Zero in person for these. Epidemiology was also all online for us except the final which is next month.

Yea pathology would replace it in tri 1 for your first question (and epidemiology replaces the other elective in tri 2 year 2). This is only for GC campus because I’m pretty sure the Nathan people have to do in person research experiments

Also this could change next year. For ex we were told about an in person quiz for epidemiology in week 5, but ended up being online. (Wouldn’t affect u anyways if u did the other 4 courses tho)

Hi I had a few questions about Griffith's med sci program. I'm super happy to have a provisional med spot but tbh I'm not too keen on Griffith's 2+4 year structure, due to the possibility of getting BMP. It also seems a bit unstructured (and maybe unnecessary) to do 3 years worth of medical science and then join the postgrad MD from year 1. Could any current/past students tell me how valid or invalid this assumption is? Did you find things from med sci overlapping/repeating in your first year of MD? How much of the content from med sci was relevant to the MD? Did you feel doing accelerated med sci gave you any advantages during the MD?

You can see an earlier post from Crow here

It's possible Griffith MedSc can be different - they can teach it to cover the MD year1 and let the cohort proceed directly into MD year2 like UWA does. But that would mean the MD year1 cohort has 80 students fewer therefore loss of $40k x 80 = $3.2 million/year funding, likely why Griffith won't do it.

(The $40k/year is from $11.4k HECS + $27.2k gov funding + $1.4k med loading > Medical places )

Hi Griffith GC med sci exec here,
I don’t know about USC campus but there’s currently a Facebook group for the incoming students to the Griffith GC campus called Griffith Medical Science Class of 2024. Nathan campus students are also free to join as well!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how international students fit into the top 75% of the cohort thing for unbonded. Is it just top 75% from the domestic students or the overall cohort?

Domestic students only, international students can’t get bonded

hey guys. I'm am international student from the United States who recently received a conditional offer for Griffith medicine provisional entry program (bsc + MD). However, i can accept my offer yet because it can only be accepted when my high school transcript and AP scores are sent to them. But ap scores take weeks to send and the results come in July, meaning it will take until August to send my AP scores to Griffith. This program fills very quickly and many told me elsewhere that seats don't remain in July or August for international students. What do I do in this situation? My high school transcript isn't an issue because I can get that sent end of June, but my AP transcript is a huge hurdle.

Hi, I was wondering if Griffth's Provisional Entry for Medicine requires UCAT.
