Interview Invites and Dates 2018-19

I got the second email 1 minute later last year. Hopefully someone from this year can weigh in for you.

I didn’t get the follow-up email either
 
I have confirmation from WSU that there won't be any more interview invites going out save for extra offers from people who have rejected their initial interview offer. Apparently confirmation of rejection will come out on the 19th of November (not sure why so late). This is from Penny at the School of Medicine who called the admissions team. Also told me there are about 400 interviewees this year.

So does this essentially mean that it will be harder to get a place? Didn’t they invite only about 300 people last year? Or are they also increasing the number of places in the course?

sorry guys i am now confused... i think the stress is getting to me!!! so has WSU finished sending out invites or will some be sent out today?
 
So just to answer a few questions above (as best I can) for WSU.
I believe a bit over 300 were interviewed last year, they told us numbers but I can't recall. I don't believe they're adding additional places to the course, roughly 110 (-120?) students are accepted but cohort size (including mine this year) is commonly around 140 once you include repeating students and international students.

The official rejection comes out late to allow time for those top-up interviews if people decline for whatever reason.

I can't say for certain but if Penny has said that all interview invites are out, I would tend to believe her. She's our go to person at the med school, and very on top of things. If anyone would have correct information I'd imagine it would be her. But obviously it's not a sure thing.

Thanks for your reply. I happened to be on the phone with WSU when I got your response and the person I was speaking to put me on hold and called the Med school and confirmed that all invites had been sent out yesterday and the rest would receive an email by the end of this week saying what their outcome is... ( I took that to mean rejection letter but now I am thinking could some be wait listed in the event some couldn't make the interview?)

If the number of interview spots increased by 100, wouldn't the cut off also decrease relative to previous years. Would that mean I have a chance with 195(59,70,66) in top up interview offers in november? Or is there close to zilch chance. At this point- did not recieve WSU interview offer

Now that you mention it, since they are interviewing more people the cut off should have decreased by a few points.

Has this been confirmed, though? I don’t think we really knew the numbers before, one person’s “about 300” could be another person’s “about 350” or even “about 400”. We don’t have precise numbers.

Last year, we were told 45 students were being interviewed for 15 rural spots (this was told to me by officials at my rural interview), so a 1:3 ratio. If there are 110-120 (according to BethMark) domestic, non-repeating places on offer, and the 1:3 ratio can be extrapolated to the whole cohort (keep in mind, this may NOT be the case), then anywhere from 330-360 is a possible total interview number. I can easily see different people referring to this in different ways. In the absence of actual figures, it’s all just speculation.
 
I was just repeating word for word what I heard from Penny - only top up interviews to fill up interviewee spots, rejection out late November, ~400 spots. But as LMG said no one really knows.
 
Yeah you have a point, people approximate things differently.

If anything it seems as though the cut off went up by a bit because last year a 119 and a 120 got an invite but this year they didn't. Although this could be a result of weighing the sections differently.

Was a 119/120 last year weighted the same as what it was this year though? In terms of percentile?
And also maybe they're taking more international students this year? That has happened at some post grad schools and it caused the cutoffs to rise because there's fewer spots for domestics. Idek
