35 min in total. Two 15 min sessions with 5 min reading time in between for scenario (you will receive two). Standard panel interview, 4 interviewers with 2 per session.

Hey guys, for the adelaide interview, does one of the sessions revolve entirely around the long scenario that you are given?

As far as I've heard from others, both panels have numerous personal questions and 1 scenario in each panel. I think depending on how you answer, you will have some extra prompt questions for the scenarios in both panels.

For the panel interviews, adelaide in particular, do you lose marks if not all questions were asked?

I wouldn't really put it that way - rather, you wouldn't gain any marks associated with those unasked questions (but of course it has the same effect). Correct me if I'm wrong, but interviewers are trained to try to fit in all the questions they need to ask in the allotted time so this shouldn't be a huge worry, although I personally haven't been to the Adelaide one myself so maybe others can weigh in on this.

Somewhat off topic..... but I was reading recently of the very high rate of non-completion of degrees at UTAS.

The rate was in excess of 40% compared to rates of < 10% for many other major universities in Australia.

Does anyone have any info about completion rates for MBBS at UTAS?

Completion rates for all Universities were posted in an article/report recently here on MSO. Let me see if I can find it for you.

In the meantime, I can recall that (over the duration covered by this article) of students who made it to second year MBBS at UTAS, none went on to drop or fail out/all went on to complete the degree.

University of Adelaide had the alarmingly highest drop/fail out rate for students between second year and final year (33ish % of all drop/fail outs, nation-wide, were from UofA).

Anyway, let me see if I can find you the stats.

Im really worried....at the end of my interview when they asked if there was anything else I would like to say I didn't say anything as I simply could not think of something..
will this effect my chances?

It won't have HELPED because you didn't add anything beneficial, but I can't imagine it would have HURT your chances either. In all likelihood, if you absolutely couldn't think of anything, but had forced yourself to ramble through something, it wouldn't have come out particularly well anyway, and that COULD have hurt your chances. I think, if you're asked if you have more to add, and you genuinely don't think you do, it's more than okay to say no and not be penalised for it.

Good luck :)

Does anyone know the reason for this. It seems ridiculous that 39 domestic students left the course in one year. Is this a typical figure for Adelaide Uni?

It's been covered somewhat in other threads (mostly by me), but the basic reason is that the fail rate is high (approximately 10% per year other than in year 6 where there are no barrier exams) and then students who fail more than once go up for academic review where they may be excluded from the course. Exams there historically have had a generally small window between passing and failing (for example, to get an A, the highest possible score on a paper, you need 65%, which says something about the difficulty of such a paper, whereas getting under 50% would mean you failed).

Given these two factors and the high rate of students going up for academic review who get excluded it's a no brainer why so many people drop out of the course.

Thanks for that! So this process of academic review after more than one fail is not common in other universities? I live in Adelaide so I was hoping to go to Adelaide Uni but this seems deterring.

Living in Adelaide (and therefore, for example, being able to not have to pay rent because you live with your parents, thus making the cost of attending the degree that much cheaper) is one of the only reasons why I would consider taking a place at Adelaide over a place somewhere else; the other reason being the scenario that your only CSP/BMP med offer is Adelaide (all other offers being FFP, which doesn't happen at the undergrad level for domestic students outside of Bond university, or that all other places didn't offer you, which is more likely).

Is Monash considering 50-50-50 UMAT threshold scores for interviews this year (similar to last year) ?

What is the required ATAR for my UMAT 81% with S1 60, S2 55, S3 56 (Total 171) ?

What is the UMAT threshold for UWA and Curtin ?
