What if you don't meet the pre-requisites for JCU Dent? I didn't do chem and maths methods in yr 12. And I am applying as a non-school leaver applicant, already have a degree. Any advice? Or can you just not apply then.

You can check with JCU/QTAC whether you degree's subjects meet the prereqs, if not you need to do bridging courses.

JCU offers CH0020 & MA0020 you can do external, start 20-Nov finish 17-Dec in time for offer consideration in January

You should enrol before interview invites are released late Oct - early Nov and let QTAC know, otherwise QTAC may denote your application as ineligible for interview. You can also do the bridging courses elsewhere but it involves the complication of checking with JCU they are equivalent.

I recommend you also get a reference from volunteering. I feel like if all your letters come from uni lecturers and school teachers, it might become a bit repetitive in what they mention if that makes sense.
Whereas a volunteering person may attest to your compassionate side, a lecturer might attest to your hard work/slash work ethic and a manager from work can mention your interactions with colleagues and customers.

^ This is from another site’s jcu info page but I think jcu also has it on their page.
Does anyone here know if this applies to paramedic and nursing degrees? If so anyone that has had experience with jcu honouring this?

I assume you call QTAC let them know you have enrolled and/or send them proof of enrolment, or indicate in your QTAC application you're doing the Certificate of Higher Education.

(From the 2nd post it appears you can do under the Certificate of Higher Education for no tuition fee, only ~$50 Student Service fee. I hope that hasn't changed).

Hey guys, I am planning on doing the MA0020 Preparatory Maths (I never did methods in high school). I can see from the academic calendar for study period 18 that it runs from Nov 20th - December 15th. However, I am also travelling overseas on the 11th of December. Can anyone tell me whether the assessments are beyond this date and/or whether it is something that I am able to complete overseas (If I bring my laptop + books with me?). Any info would be super helpful!

I'd say since it's External you can do from home here, you can also do from overseas.

They come out in the QTAC offer round, usually 10ish January.

Hi Guys.

I am applying for JCU 2023 and have achieved an ATAR of 97.00 in 2022. I lived in MM2 or RA2 for 7 years of my life, but haven't done any volunteering work other than small voluntary duties for the church and sporting activities. I have only participated in volunteering where I currently live (MM1). However, my biggest problem is that I did not apply with any letters of support because of some unfortunate last minute circumstances. Will this be a big issue with getting an interview or even an offer?

Also, does JCU have any preference for any local residents? I am asking because I lived in a rural area of the Cairns region (Gordonvale)- where my address is on the edge between an MM2 and the MM5 border. But it is not considered MM5.

Note the Rurality Index means it's not Yes/No rural vs nonrural, nor clearcut between MM2 vs MM5. It's how JCU assesses the extent of your rurality. Local residents do get the benefit of Cairns being more rural than say Brisbane, not because Cairns is local to JCU.

If my memory is correct, on the JCU application it said that attaching letters of support was optional. Based on this, I'm not sure how letters of support could be used as a deciding factor in interview offers. Since they also don't consider UCAT, would the interview offers just be based on predicted ATAR and rurality?

Flip side is if support letters play no factor in interview selection, why JCU bother asking for them at all.

My interpretation is - making them optional means not submitting one doesn't make your application incomplete/disqualified. But (all else being equal) it would be less competitive than those with 2-3 letters.

The rurality index is given by JCU when they assess your written application (in the past) and discussions in interview, likely including your residency address in consideration as well. The point is it's not simply based on the RA/MMA code.

Yes I applied for the RAS on QTAC.
