JCU JCU Medicine: Interview Discussion

ohhh so they will determine in the interview how passionate we are to work rurally based on our responses?

Put it this way, if you interview at JCU and say "rural medicine sucks, why would I ever want to go anywhere other than a capital city" then you are not going to get a spot. Somewhere between that response and "rural medicine is the best thing ever all I want to do is set up a practice in Boulia and marry the guy that runs the camel races!" is a realistic & genuine response that JCU is looking for & will preference when comparing applicants.

Hey guys :)

I applied to both Med and Dent at JCU, but I had no idea that we are only allowed to submit ONE application!!!
Will this ruin my chances of being accepted/receiving an interview offer? My applications were not exactly contradictory, but I did say that becoming a Doctor/Dentist is my dream in both.
Any opinion will be appreciated!

While I don't think we've ever had a poster be in this situation (so can't positively confirm or deny what JCU will do) I don't see them letting you use one application for medicine and another one for dentistry - this could give you an advantage over applicants that followed the rules JCU set out (which they have clearly outlined for a reason in the application form). My guess would be that they would either:

a) Mark only one application (not sure how they would select which one) for both dentistry and medicine; or

b) Invalidate both applications

I'd personally expect them to go with b), but for your sake I really hope they either mark both applications or go with a) instead, as this seems like an honest mistake on your behalf!

When you find out the outcome of each application, please report back here if possible for our information.

Good luck :)

I’m just wondering if anyone else still hasn’t received a confirmation email and when I should contact JCU? As I did track it and they have picked it up.

Just wondering if anyone who applied for JCU dentistry for 2019 has received a confirmation email about their application?

I was just about to post this too! It's been over a month and I still haven't received any confirmations
Have you all checked your junk/spam/promotions folders? I've had several reports of the emails ending up there this year.

If you're applying for med, I'd contact them tomorrow for peace of mind (as interview invites will be rolling out pretty soon). If you're applying for dentistry, I wouldn't stress too much about it yet (offers aren't due until January next year), but I'd contact them if it gets to late November and you've still heard nothing.

Hey guys...

So I have been following MSO forever but never really wrote on it coz I wasn’t ready I guess :)
I have applied for JCU for 2019- I’m a mature aged (not super old but older than the year 12’s ofcoz hehehe) , non standard applicant from Victoria.

I believe I have a strong application(well I think so atleast), and my current GPA is 7/7 and have completed 5 units so far.

Does JCU offer first round interviews based on first semester results? Or will I have to wait till second round? I have read so much and there are mixed messages on here, so I’m a tad bit confused and would love some feedback.
Also, I promise to share any progress as soon as I find out ! MSO has given me so much hope and I will be sure to return the favour by keeping u guys updated with any progress (if at all).

Thanks a million!

In many cases first year uni students are given a 2nd round interview based on their full-year GPA, but there are exceptions. Not sure but I suspect it goes like the Admissions team mark your application and combine its score with your half-year GPA then rank everyone on a list. If you sit significantly above the cutoff for interview i.e. a small change in GPA won't drag you below JCU gives you a 1st round interview. Otoh if you are close to the cutoff JCU might prefer to wait for full-year results.

Despite your 7/7 we can't tell what it is after combining with application, so I sit on the fence and say you can get either or none at all :) . But don't feel bad about getting a 2nd round interview since JCU doesn't make any place offers until after the 2nd round interviews.

Yeah that’s what I thought too after reading through sooooo much! Hehehe :)

Wel I guess now it’s a matter of waiting and hoping for the best!

Thanks so much for the prompt reply A1! Totally appreciate your help :)

Here’s wishing all applicants the very best!!!

Does JCU give a fixed date for the interview or does it get you to choose from a booking system like WSU and UoA? Thanks.

Last year was the first year they allowed you to choose a date. I assume it will be the same this year, but we’ll find out in the next few days.

are they all coming out on the 9th or do some come out on 10th aswell
You shouldn't expect invites to be released on a Saturday, no. As per the admissions guide, I'd expect offers to all have been released by COB on the 9th.
