not sure if there's more to it than this but i think because JMP started reserving interview invites for their previously enrolled Biomed students (biomed sci pathway)

Yes there's more to it :
- A JMP's correspondence says they only gave out a small number of invites to Biomed students.
- Another JMP source says last year they increased interview spots from the usual 750 to 900.
- Cutoff %ile jumped from 90th to 93rd.

I don't know what not to believe

Or more people took the interview offer due to the fact they didn't have to travel for it because it was online pushing the percentiles up?

QLD high school students doubling..... I would like to see some sort of proof that this is the case as it sounds very far fetched to confirm you're suggesting if 300 000 students sat ATAR examinations in 2019 in QLD 600 000 did in 2020? (Hypothetical numbers btw)

Just had a look QLD HS leavers that completed year 12 didn't double. Instead there was an increase of around 31% furthermore this was still less graduates than 2016-2018.

I don't think so. The previous years' 750 or last year's 900 were the numbers of interview spots/invites JMP decided to make available, which when filled resulted in the cutoffs. It shouldn't be dependent on how many took the interview offer.

Btw I don't recall JMP made top-up invites in the previous years. Even if they did it'd only be 1%ile lower at most, not 3%ile lower vs last year.

The reason for half-sized cohort was like this - some 14-15 years ago Qld decided to change/make the Year1 starting age 6 months older, to keep in synch with the other states. For example those born between 1/1/2002 - 31/12/2002 were to start Y1 in 2007 reaching Y12 in 2018. Then with the change those born between 1/7/2002 - 30/6/2003 were to start Y1 in 2008 reaching Y12 in 2019.

But for this one transition year alone, those born between 1/7/2002 - 31/12/2002 already went into Y1 the previous year, thus only between 1/1/2003 - 30/6/2003 started Y1 that year = half-sized.

Ahhh so people are notionally referring to it as half sized even though the statistics show the next cohort was only 30% larger I get it now

If you have a look through the thread to this time last year, you’ll see the pattern. No guarantee it’ll be the same but it’s the only info we have to go on.

The UNE JMP admissions officer did say that unsuccessful applicants would be notified by Monday or Tuesday next week by email

You guys should have recorded the ambient temperature at the time these answers were given. Plot them out you should see a strong correlation
