JMP JMP: Interview Invites General Discussion

Ooh I see! Scratch what I said then. Maybe too many preferences for UoN so some people got assigned to UNE? But as you said, doesn’t matter either way!

Yeah, it doesn't matter that much this year, but historically, QLD interviewees were routinely interviewed in UNE regardless of location preference, and there were some other vagaries along those lines. Just an FYI for the future for anyone reading along...

Hey! I don’t believe so. JMP offers places to the top ranking interviewees, regardless of their campus preference. I imagine the higher you rank, the more likely you are to get your first preference. It just so happens that more people tend to prefer UoN over UNE :)
ohh ok thank you, how many people are offered an interview and how many get offered positions?

We dont know whats 'high' and whats 'low' until the dust settles. We predicted this year the cut off would be ~93rd and it looks around that. Would be great if any NSW or rural students who havent got interviews yet gave their scores in the interview thread

I got a 2880 and no invite, so non-rural the cut off is somewhere between that and 2980
I got 2950 and no invite. Somewhere between 2980 and 2950

Hey everyone,

Can someone explain what the multiple skills assessment is for Newcastle JMP? I heard that last year it was an interview with an extra cognitive assessment. Is it just an MMI interview this year? Thanks

Historically it's been the MSA (basically an MMI) plus the PQA. They have scrapped the PQA and the MSA has been halved from 8 components to 4. What those 4 components will comprise is anyone's guess.

This is insane, last year a 3000 puts you in the 97th percentile while the cutoff was only at the 90th.

this year a 3000 is only just above the apparent cutoff
I understood the 90th percentile cutoff going up this year, I just didn't understand why on top of the fact that 2920 is 90th percentile, they've also taken a higher percentile as the cutoff, effectively increasing the minimum from 2840 to like 3000...

a) the number of people sitting the UCAT this year was bigger than last year. Remember uni’s invite by raw mark, not percentile so we can expect the percentile cutoff may rise

b) I heard JMP re-allocated some spots that used to be for general entry to graduate entry for current Newcastle students only. This significantly reduces the number of spots available to the rest of us

I think.

In the past JMP have interviewed approximately 700 candidates, but this figure could be different this year. There are 170 places, 110 and UoN and 60 at Armidale (How many places are available in the Joint Medical Program each year? / AskUON / The University of Newcastle, Australia).
Someone pls correct me if I’m wrong
Hi, Also there is now an additional 32 spots for the Central Coast Clinical School. (*Correction - A Redistribution - not additonal places, please disregard).

Hi, Also there is now an additional 40 spots for the Central Coast Clinical School.

Is this a reallocation of places or an additional 40 on top of the 170 they've always had? ETA: my understanding is the 40 will be allocated to UoN but attend the CCCS (which is a CS not a University in its own right).

That is a very good question, and i haven't been able to find any information that says new or reallocation. This is a quote from the official JMP page:

"From 2021, 32 students who accept an offer to study the Joint Medical Program (JMP) at the University of Newcastle will be located at The University of Newcastle Central Coast Clinical School for their first three years of study. "

Looks like some interview invites have begun to be sent out. If anyone would like to get a group together and have a practice and discussion about them, please send me a message!

Yeah, it's just a reallocation of places. It's almost impossible for a university to increase their CSPs by this amount without government intervention (as it's the government that fund those places, and the resultant internships in 5-6-7 years time).

Ahh that's disappointing. Thanks for the correction.
