Med and Dent - 2018 Entry (Place Offers and Discussion)

Thanks so much Concon :D

I think the main difference between ours is that what's under my Location subheading (CLINK) whereas yours is SATAC. What's under my Link subheading is totally different to yours too.

What made me realise I uploaded the documents to the wrong place is when I rechecked SATAC today--> it said to upload the documents to the "Other-personal documents" row

Hmm yeah I just saw that "other personal documents" now oops haha. I'm sure either way it can be resolved :)

Yess hopefully! :D Even though you didn't upload your documents to the "other personal documents" row (like me), it was still fine...

So I'm wondering if the stuff under the Location subheading and Link subheading is causing all the fuss (because that's the only difference I can see between how we uploaded our documents)

Theres definitely something funny going on with the myhub thing, mine is showing as if I am enrolled in the medicine program (I've attached pictures of what I can see on my account - hopefully they show up for you). I have no option of accepting or enrolling or anything like that so I'm thinking they may have forgotten to remove it from the "my academics" section. Another strange thing is that it says "JMP UNE" and "Callaghan campus" which obviously isn't possible. I suppose we will find out for sure on Friday, good luck everyone.

Just an update I did end up receiving an offer to the JMP at UNE so looks like the whole myhub thing was just an early release! Thought this might want to be noted in-case it happens again in future years.
Course Type: Med (JMP)
Offer Received: Yes
University: UNE
UMAT: 96th percentile
ATAR/GPA : 6.5
Offer Type: Bonded
Special Considerations: Rural RA2, Non-standard (first year uni)

I got this too, but I haven't done my JMP interview yet..im interstate, non-rural??
can someone help with this!?

Hmmm. I applied for UNSW for med and I was interstate and had an "I" instead... I know my UMAT and ATAR are above their cutoff and I'm eligble for an interview later in January as they sent me an email, but I didn't get an "X".

Just reading back, my ATAR was only 98.75 but UES pushed it to 99.95. But flinders was my 3rd preference I believe, does this mean I didn’t get my first two which were Adelaide haha?

Personally I don't think so... Adelaide Dent was my 3rd preference and I received an early offer (wasn't through SATAC, I received an email direct from UoA) late December, but I don't think that necessarily means I outright didn't get Adelaide Med... I don't think the univeristies actually know where they sit in your preferences? Can someone confirm?

Yeah the unis don't know where they sit in your preferences but if someone got a Flinders offer they wouldn't find out unless they didn't receive any of their higher preferences, not through SATAC anyway. The uni calling you for early offers is different, they're letting you know that you are ranked high enough for an offer and if you don't get offers for any preferences higher than it you're in (or if you rank it as first preference). I don't understand why SATAC would release any offers till they've received the status for all your preferences. That being said, a lot of people will decline their Adelaide offers so you could receive one after the initial round of offers.

Ahhh okay. I personally thought it was a bit bizarre as it was like an official offer (I could enrol and everything, as in the offer was unconditional) and like you said, they said that if Adelaide Dent was my first preference I would receive an official offer from SATAC on the 16th. My tutor said it's likely because more people want Adel Med than dent, and so they're trying to convince people to take up dent. But of course since I don't really want dent, I didn't change my preferences. Funnily enough, on the Admissions Adelaide website where you can see the status of your admission, on my Med one it says it is still being "assessed" whereas for dent, it doesn't even say it's being assessed or have an offer listed (instead it says only interview scheduled...!) I don't know the Adelaide dent process well, but I mean I received an offer on the 21st of Dec and my ATAR only came out on the 19th which was also strange!

Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see on the 16th to see if some Flinders people who saw an offer on the Flinders website and had Adel preferenced higher receive an offer from Adelaide... and for myself if I receive an offer from Adelaide!

Haha, obviously I can't be 100% sure and yea with your dent offer I'm fairly certain they're trying to get more students with a high selection rank into dentistry (so you haven't been eliminated from Adelaide med just because the uni rang you about a dentistry offer). Everyone I met at my dent interview (myself included) had med as their first preference and dent as a fallback. Good luck on the 16th!

Thanks! Did you sit interviews for Adelaide Dent/Med too? Good luck!

So quick question about places for UNSW. If someone was to defer, does that count as them putting an offer back in the pool, or not?

To every kind soul who helped calm down a stressed out me and talked about their experiences with SATAC's Universities Equities Scheme over the past few days, thank you so much!! All of you are amazing ☺

Just called SATAC and they said my adjusted ATAR is 99.95.

Lesson learnt: I don't think whatever is written under the headings "location" and "link", and which part of the "documents" page the evidence was attached to matters too much. Always ask here on mso for what other people did and call SATAC :D

Now to figure out why I couldn't create the Flinders account...

Was (is?) Flinders your number 1 SATAC preference? Could it not just mean you have a UAdel offer waiting for you tomorrow?

That's my dream! Adel is my 1st SATAC pref but I bombed the interview, which is worth so much, so I'm not counting on it.
Plus maybe the Flinders account is for everyone who's eligible (not only those who will receive an offer tomorrow)? Think medengconfused and k4ps were talking about this

Given people were able to actually enroll in the degree, I personally very much doubt they made that available to everyone who is eligible. But who knows. It’s only a day away!

Ooh thought they could only accept the offer, enrolling is on another level!

Hello all, a moment of confusion,
I just called UoN and they said they weren't making second round offers, so what happens to the first round offers that get rejected?

I meant accept the offer! No idea if they’ve been able to enroll, tbh. Not sure if any of them mentioned it? But I definitely meant accept the offer. Whoops. So to clarify, being able to accept the offer makes me, personally, think it wasn’t made available to everyone who was eligible. And your situation supports this view, imo.

For the bold bit- do you say that because you can only receive one offer from a state (apart from JCU which lets you know that you're competitive enough for an offer, even if you might receive an offer from a higher preference)?

This is exactly what I was trying to say the other day, but got told I was wrong. As far as I’m aware, JMP don’t make general second round offers to individuals. If you’ve been eligible for an offer in an earlier round, but missed out for whatever reason (preferencing or not being competitive), you won’t be considered in later rounds. Later rounds are for people who’ve yet to complete their interview, but will have by then.

Some top up offers (usually via phone) will be made after this to people who missed out in earlier rounds.

That’s my understanding, but I was told this is not the case. And it may not be... it’s just the impression I was given by a current JMP student who was imploring me to ensure JMP was my top preference for Jan round one as that would be my only chance.
