Med and Dent - 2018 Entry (Place Offers and Discussion)

For the bold bit- do you say that because you can only receive one offer from a state (apart from JCU which lets you know that you're competitive enough for an offer, even if you might receive an offer from a higher preference)?

Yes. And JCU just give you a heads up, they don’t provide you with a link to accept an offer so even people who get JCU phone calls still, in essence, get a single QTAC offer.

This is exactly what I was trying to say the other day, but got told I was wrong. As far as I’m aware, JMP don’t make general second round offers to individuals. If you’ve been eligible for an offer in an earlier round, but missed out for whatever reason (preferencing or not being competitive), you won’t be considered in later rounds. Later rounds are for people who’ve yet to complete their interview, but will have by then.

Some top up offers (usually via phone) will be made after this to people who missed out in earlier rounds.

That’s my understanding, but I was told this is not the case. And it may not be... it’s just the impression I was given by a current JMP student who was imploring me to ensure JMP was my top preference for Jan round one as that would be my only chance.

I think what youre saying coincidences with what the admissions officer says. Thanks LMG! Also another piece of info, JMP doesnt tell you your position on the ranking list.

That's my dream! Adel is my 1st SATAC pref but I bombed the interview, which is worth so much, so I'm not counting on it.
Plus maybe the Flinders account is for everyone who's eligible (not only those who will receive an offer tomorrow)? Think medengconfused and k4ps were talking about this
You probably got the Adelaide offer cause your adjusted atar is 99.95

Tbh, given interviews haven’t even been finialised yet, I very much doubt there even IS a ranking list at this stage. In some instances there may be (rural admissions, for example, given all rural interviews have been run), but it’d be impossible to tell somewhere where they are on a waitlist when X amount of people haven’t even been interviewed yet. If that makes sense.

Out of interest does anyone know lowest rank that got an offer?

Got an offer to where? And what rank? If you’re referring to JMP, they only use interview and PQA to rank applicants who get to that stage and we have no idea of those scores and are never likely to.

That's nice of you but not much chance since ATAR is worth the same as the interview, and my interview was shocking to say the least...

That's for helping me figure out my SATAC mess :D

Maybe there were LOTS of “shocking” interviews, and yours was actually a little less shocking than the others?!

My JMP interview was shocking and I still scraped an offer (bonded and to my least preferred location!).

Or maybe your interview was SO shocking it was actually good?

Only tomorrow will tell ;)

Haha LMG! trying to make me feel better! I think a lot of med applicants/ med students (in your case) are incredibly modest and downplay their achievements. I'm not one of them!

In all honesty, heaps of awkward pauses, didn't finish the 1st scenario, interviewers suddenly stopped smiling at some points of my interview, missed the key points, talked too fast when I did speak... not going to go on! We'll see tomorrow...

Just called SATAC and my adjusted ATAR was 99.95 which applied to all of my preferences.. Not able to create an account on flinders website
Me too omg!! Thought I was the only one... What was your actual ATAR if you don't mind saying + what was the order of your SATAC preferences? And what bonus did you have?

gnaf don't write yourself off just yet. I talk faster than a gilmore girl, completely forgot to slow myself down in my WSU interview and somehow they still heard enough of what I said to offer me a place. I really thought I bombed and was counting on JMP, but when offers came out I was pleasantly surprised.

Good luck tomorrow, at least you don't have to wait much longer in any case.

Thanks for sharing that, always thought talking super fast would rule me out immediately! Heaps of other things I could've done better, but now I'll head off and watch some gilmore girls :p

This was exactly me at JMP. Without giving too many details away, there was even one question where I kind of stared blankly at the interviewer and had a mini internal breakdown because I had no idea what to say!! We moved onto the next question because time ran out! HAHAHA! Trust me, I'm not downplaying anything! I think I killed it at WSU, there was nothing I would have changed, but JMP felt awkward and awful from start to finish :D

i got 99.70.. adelaide was my first preference
Maybe you got Adelaide :D Cookie mentioned this the other day (they couldn't create a Flinders account either but be able to get Flinders) and like you once again, they have Adel as their first preference

What bonus points did you have? Individual or school-based or something else?

Literally my experience at Adelaide, thanks for the reassurance LMG! even though you might be super modest! :p I forgot to add that I tried to get straight into answering the question for some of the questions... which meant that I spoke for a bit, blinked when I realised I couldn't go on and just smiled awkwardly (like this :D heh)

So quick question about places for UNSW. If someone was to defer, does that count as them putting an offer back in the pool, or not?

Yes the deferred spot goes to the next eligible applicant.
(Otoh we believe UQ doesn't do this because they have a grad-entry intake for the same cohort in 3 years time, deferred/declined spots are transferred to that pool)
