Med and Dent - 2019 Entry (Offers)

Contrasting these two offers shows how important the interview component is.

Without any special consideration (e.g. rural or disadvantaged etc), can an ace interview compensate a relatively low ATAR (98.65) and a low UMAT (164) for a Monash place offer?

That’s literally what happened with the offer I posted up there^

The interview is important, but Monash says it's equally weighted vs ATAR and UMAT. With that in mind it's difficult to see how, relative to the interview cohort, a bottom 72%ile UMAT + a below-par 98.65 ATAR + a presumably top interview would edge out a near top ATAR + a respectable UMAT + a bottom interview; unless the former got some special consideration.

I know you've said there was no SES/bonus but we can't be sure. Monash gives certain bonuses without you needing to apply for/realising you got them.

I've asked the person to use the Monash calculator and see if they get an ATAR boost but apparently they don't. Also didn't apply for SES. I am as
surprised as you are. See the thread here - How did I get a Monash medicine interview offer? (Update: got medicine!)

Then again, it is the internet and I guess you really can't be 100% sure ever.

Regarding the Monash NO Offer, Would anyone know who my friend could call to query? The family just cannot understand how an offer was not made with that Atar and Umat scores? Thanks again.

First you should explain to the friend's family the ATAR / UMAT scores alone do not guarantee an offer. It's only relative to the 98.4/72nd%ile, no bonus, equally weighted interview that we are raising the question.

When I got my Monash invite (interstate interview) the email had the name of a person to reply to to arrange a time slot. If it was similar this year can someone provide/PM the name to cat123a ?

Presumably, the explanation is the interview score. They could try contacting Monash Med and asking for clarification, but I’m not sure they’ll get anywhere, tbh. At a minimum though, they could confirm Monash had the correct info re. UMAT and ATAR.

PM'd them but just as a notice, didn't get a specific name or anything. Just the faculty number.

Hey, did anyone here get a fourth round offer for medicine at the University of Adelaide?

I doubt anyone received one. I got an email on Monday that basically said "third round and no offer? time to look at other options"; plus the available places in all of the MEDIC ST subjects (examination, SBM, CP, MPPD) haven't changed since Monday either (after dropping by ~13 since 3rd round offers had been made), so I'm assuming all of this year's intake positions are full until someone either defers or accepts at another uni.
