Monash Monash Medicine: General Entry Discussion

Can anyone currently studying at Monash recommend which text books to buy from the 4 page booklist?

Take note that it says none are really essential for first year, but if you really want to buy something it should probably be one of these.
I would say the first two textbooks on this list are the ones I looked at in first year but I’d say sit tight for atleast sem 1 then decide what works for you, whether you can deal with the online textbooks that you can get access to or till you figure out which textbooks you want to buy.

thanks!! and i assume it makes sense to get the 9th edition (published oct 2020) rather than the the earlier edition which is listed on the 2020 booklist (which is on the monash website)? and where does one usually buy textbooks from?
also, completely changing gears but - are there any opportunities to study abroad during this degree? can't find a clear answer on the monash website
thanks so much

Seems like there are plenty of opportunities available: https://www.monash.edu/medicine/study/overseas-programs

I would try looking for any secondhand books if they’re available because they cost a fortune but otherwise Amazon? anywhere on the internet? Would highly recommend just waiting to buy them until you’re in uni I know a couple of my friends who spent $$$ on textbooks and regret it 😅

I was just sent an invitation for Monash interviews today, definitely surprised since I thought I missed out due to a sub-par UCAT. Plus I'm already enrolled in the JMP 😫 (although whether I get an offer or not is another story).
Any advice as to which uni/city is better? Newcastle or Monash? I live on the other side of the country and have absolutely no idea!!
Also probably the wrong forum but how hard is it to un-enrol from the JMP? Asking for a friend...

Congrats on your interview! If you’re interested in Monash and have the option to choose I would recommend focusing on the interview and giving it your best shot! I think it would be easier to make a decision after you have the offer and then you can consider the whole picture.
If I recall correctly un-enrolling from JMP wasn’t too much of a hassle just make sure you do it before the census date which should be around late March/ early April...you don’t have to unenrol straight away. I can’t speak for Newcastle but I had a great first year experience at Monash (even online) and I love how busy Melbourne is compared to where I come from in QLD but I would say it’s pretty subjective. All the best!

Thanks for your advice! Especially about un-enrolling, the later date takes a bit of pressure off of making any fast decisions.
Definitely don’t wait until March/April to unenroll from any Med/dent course you don’t intend on attending. This prevents the University from making top up offers and means students who are still waiting for offers miss out while some students sit on multiple offers. Obviously take the time you need to make an informed decision, but be mindful and respectful of what it means for others.

Hey guys, IDK if this is the right place to ask. But for y'all who enrolled for Monash, did you get an email about how to complete your eCaf (request for CSP loan thing) from Monash yet? IDK if it normally takes this long.

nope. There is no need for that email. Just go to the monash WES and it'll take you through the things you need to fill in for the hecs-loan (like TFN etc..)

Um yeah I've already got the USI, TFN etc. and filled out the HESC section on the Monash WES.

What I mean is here (Home - eCAF) it says "If you have received an email with information on how to complete your eCAF, sign in to get started."

But all I got from Monash was a email confirming that "Your request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP has been processed" with no instructions? Can I just go fill the eCAF now?

Edit: Oh and to log in to the eCAF thing it says you need a passkey which will be in the email sent by your provider which I haven't got yet

Nobody has got further instructions. So long as you've applied for HECS-HELP through the monash WES, you're good to go. Don't stress it :) We are all on the same page haha.

I borrow this page from UoN, saying eCAF is required
> What is an eCAF and how do I complete it? / AskUON / The University of Newcastle, Australia

When I enrolled at UWA (likely same at other unis) there was a section where I provided TFN and signed to indicate I wanted to apply for HECS-HELP. The eCAF links I googled show an Oct 2020 date so looks like eCAF is replacing that section from this year.

Ye there was a similar section in Monash WES about providing TFN etc. I think the due date for this for Monash is around the end of March so plenty of time to get it sorted out once uni starts (I assume more info will be provided in orientation and the enrolment info session) :)

Hi guys, for anyone in the know, any word on whether Semester 1 is online or in-person? Or if it is split, what would the ratio be approximately? Just wondering as I'm not from Melb and have to make decisions quick on whether accomodation is necessary.
