Monash Monash Medicine: General Entry Discussion

Does taking IB course put you at disadvantage in terms of not getting first-round interviews and Monash consider IB applicants as interstate?
Seeking some help regarding the advantages and disadvantages of IB course in terms of Monash Medicine entry.
Are you a Vic IB? It would be an oversight by Monash if they apply the interstate invite cutoff to Vic IB.
That said it's an oversight that can easily occur, knowing how Admission teams are at times unreliable.

To my knowledge, Monash just converts your IB to an ATAR according to whatever the official conversions are (45 = 99.95, 44 = 99.75, 43 = 99.55 etc.), just like how they convert NZ NCEA results to an ATAR. There is no advantage or disadvantage here, speaking from personal experience.
Why IB candidates get a second round of interviews and the second round gets really competitive

Why IB candidates get a second round of interviews
If you are non-Vic you get second round interview IB or not IB.

If you are Vic IB then 2nd round this year I guess because IB results came out too late for 1st round (held earlier this year). In previous years Monash squeezed Vic IBs into 1st round with just 1-2 days invite notice.

How many interstate interviews does Monash conduct?
My guesstimate is around 80-100, but usually less than 2/3rd turn up since with such high scores many have got a home state offer by now.

Have anyone got Monash Interstate intervieq email invitation? It was supposed to be sent today.

Someone above you received one, but that's the only report to date.
He just messaged me, he actually studied in Singapore and did the GCSE Singapore. Not sure if he falls under interstate category or not? If anyone have recieved interstate email invitation please share with us

As long as you have permanent residence/citizenship in Australia, you're considered an interstate (or simply local) applicant I think.

No, as per him "I don’t have a residential address in Victoria or anywhere in Australia actually so I assumed it was interstate"

Anyways, let's see if anyone else got an offer and post here

You’re definitely considered domestic, I’m not sure re. in-state vs interstate though.

Yeah, but seeing as they got their invite today I'm gonna assume their place of permanent residence (if any?) was outside of Vic hahah

may be the absolute wrong place to ask - but there are so many prescribed books! are there any that are absolutely, unquestionably essential? lowkey keen to buy something tangible to make myself feel like this is all real...getting an offer still feels like a fever dream XD

Take note that it says none are really essential for first year, but if you really want to buy something it should probably be one of these.

Wait I just wanted to understand this a bit clearer. So in the first round, places are offered to Victorian/interstate applicants. I know most Victorian applicants will accept and a minority will decline leading to the creation of subsequent offer rounds. However, my question is that if interstate people in the first round decline, will the availability created by that decision be an opening that can be for Victorian or interstate applicants in subsequent rounds? Also, if the answer is that interstate applicants can only receive a second round offer, if they decline this, will the created spot be then offered to a Victorian or interstate applicant in a subsequent round? Thank you all for your help!

First round was for locals and interstate rurals only. Interstate non-rurals haven’t even interviewed yet. They will be the focus of second round place offers.
