It wasn’t a case of a single person, it happened to whole swathes of tertiary applicants, myself included (despite having a completed degree, UNSW still said they would be waiting until second sem results were released before doing interview offers to non-standards). And yes, I did end up with an interview invite (didn’t attend as I had three offers elsewhere by that stage).

ETA: found my original email, this was the terminology:

“We did not have sufficient information with regards to your academic result: no result prediction was provided or we were unable to calculate your academic result (this is often the case for non-HSC applicants or applicants with tertiary education).”

It then said locals who end up meeting GPA criteria would be interviewed on the 3rd/4th of Jan, and interstates (me) on 23rd.

I wonder if as a NSW student, I'd be able to get an interview on the 3rd/4th of Jan (so that we'd still be eligible for the 1st round of offers), but I can't seem to see any info on the UNSW website indicating that they have interviews at this time for this years schedule.

considering the whole unsw situation and offers not coming out until possibly second round, putting unsw as our first option on uac won't affect our chances of receiving a jmp/wsu offer in the first round does it?

These two rounds are now combined into one in late Dec, there is no longer one in early Jan. Yeh, I think we'd be deferred to the "interstate" round, since I was advised that they will not look at/have access to my semester 1 results nor my ATAR unless the semester 2 results are available. I guess it'd be just have to be a longer wait for me to see if I'd qualify for an interview/offer.

It won't affect your chances but can affect the timing of you receiving a JMP/WSU offer. UAC can hold back your 1st round offer until you have done Unsw interview which determines whether or not you get a Unsw offer first.

In that case, wouldn't they know that the applicant isn't eligible for a UNSW offer in the 10-11 January offer round (since they haven't done the interview yet), so WSU/JMP would release the offer?

WSU/JMP will release the offers but UAC, being the offers traffic police, might not. If UAC sticks to the letters of the rule, you are eligible for one offer being the highest pref you qualify for. Since the Unsw outcome is not yet known they can hold back your lower-pref offers until the higher is decided.

For this reason UAC had an offer status code saying Qualified pending result of a higher pref (i.e. different to Offer made). I'm not sure if they still do this.

To further illustrate, CSU Dent release their offers in the Dec round. They often call the applicants a few days in advance to tell them they are successful but to see the offer from UAC they need to move CSU to 1st pref for that offer round (then move it down lower after accepting the CSU offer if they want med more than dent).

SLs and NSLs are in the same competition pool. But deferred NSLs will be in the same *offer pool* with interstate SLs. If UNSW is true to their words the final score (Atar/Gpa+UCAT+Interview) required for a place offer will be the same as for the first offer round.

The schools are not concerned about full or part time, they look at the number of full time equiv FTE years you have done. So at early Jan you won't have 1 FTE year.

Net effect is for JMP you need ATAR 94.3+, for WSU either 95.5+ or 6.4+ (instead of 6.2+). Quite bad for UNSW since your 7-unit GPA will be converted to a much lower ATAR equiv.

I'm not sure how QTAC deals with this for JCU and UQ Dent. Hope someone can help.

Nope, unfortunately QTAC/UAC isn't going to predict your 8th subject based on previous grades for your other subjects. You will be considered part time.

You could always ask for them to re-rank you once the grade for the final subject is released in January (QTAC will manually request your updated transcript from your university - it's not automatic so you have to request it), but by then, offer allocations would've probably already been made. You could potentially get a late round offer though?

The uni staff were not wrong, in general for Centrelink etc you are considered a full time student if you do 75%+ of the regular study load. But as I mentioned the med schools measure by FTE, so having done 6-7 units "full time" does not give you 1 FTE year.

For 2020-21 yes you will have 1+ FTE by then.

Yep, as A1 said - your scores will be valid for entry 2020-2021 but your UCAT results won't be.

1. NSW ATAR will be released on 17th Dec. Your GPA should be updated as part of that UAC update round if not before.

2. No, it's included in your UAC application fee. Google UAC QAS for info.

3. You can pay UAC for one or multiple assessments but that won't make your GPA any more ready for UNSW. The paid assessment service is only for private info or for USyd grad entry application.

I'm 33 and currently working as a Research Assistant full-time. I completed my Bachelors of Medical Science back in 2007 and a Masters by Research. I attempted the UCAT this year but didn't achieve a compedititve score. I'm not sure if I should just bite the bullet and do another bachelors degree (probably online as I need to keep working) to gain a new GPA as my previous degree I had a GPA of 5. I want to continue trying for med, just not sure how if its worth going for the new bachelors or just trying once a year with the UCAT.

Just to clarify, your GPA of 5.0 is from you initial bachelor degree, and since then, you’ve also completed a masters by research?
