Non-standard Medicine Entry

Hi guys,
I've recently started applying via UAC through non-standard entry and just wondering if the preference you choose on UAC affect your chances also getting into a particular medicine/dentistry school? Also I'm wondering if I can apply for more than 3 schools since the website seems to only allow me to choose 3?

It won’t affect your interview eligibility, you’ll get interviews at all unis you are eligible for that are in your preferences list by closing date for applications.

It WILL affect your offers, should you be fortunate enough to be successful for more than one university. You will only receive ONE offer (per round), so if, say, you’re eligible for offers at both JMP and WSU, you’ll only get an offer for the university that you’ve ranked ‘higher’.

You can potentially overcome this by re-arranging your preferences after round one, and hoping for a second offer in round two (useful for if you get a BMP in round one and want to try for a CSP elsewhere in round two). But if you have clear preferences for the three UAC non-standard unis, then definitely just order them that way.

I think UAC allows you five or six preferences? Definitely more than 3.

Which med or dent unis for Non-standards have a specific number of spots for non-standards. I know one of them is JCU, mainly concerned about UNSW, Newcastle, WSU, CSU and adelaide dent

JCU do for medicine and dentistry and Curtin and Bond do for medicine.

UNSW, JMP and WSU do not, and neither does Adelaide dentistry AFAIK. Can't speak for CSU but I imagine their website should reveal the answer.

Hi All,

There was a list of med and dent school that take non standards I saw on a forum? I can't seem to locate it anymore. Can someone link me that thread please?

Thank you!

Medicine: JMP, UNSW, WSU, Bond, JCU and Curtin (if you have a completed degree).

Dentistry: Adelaide, UQ, LaTrobe, CSU, JCU and Griffith.

Question, if you have a trash ATAR but good GPA and UCAT, where can you go?

Most non-standard Uni's only take into account GPA once you've began university study, apart from UNSW who use 50/50 ATAR/GPA, JMP require >4.8 or something and only use it as a hurdle, JCU generally require 6.25+, Western Sydney 6.1+ (for one year+ completed) etc etc

For transfer to MBBS at Adelaide, do I only have to submit the SATAC application or do I have to do something else too? Will it automatically be processed as a transfer?

Hey guys,
This might be the wrong place to ask because I haven't done the UCAT this year but intend on doing it next year and will be applying as a non-standard next year. I will be in my 2nd year of uni at UNSW next year, right now my WAM is a mid-distinction (I'm not too sure how i convert this to a GPA) but that could easily change since I've only completed one trimester. Also my 2018 ATAR was 98.15. Do you guys think that I would have a chance at a place in medicine anywhere in NSW without an extremely high UCAT given I maintain or improve my Uni marks? Obviously its difficult to tell so early but any insight you could give would be very appreciated.
Thanks for your help in advance

JMP and WSU use ATAR/GPA as a hurdle. Your marks would make you eligible for both assuming you sit UCAT. Historically, the JMP UMAT requirement was lower than WSU. It will be interesting to see how it plays out this year.

UNSW would be tricker, as your ATAR will pull you down a bit and you’d need a high UCAT to compensate.

Good luck!

First take a look of the Non-standard section in this table > [Undergrad] - (2019 Updated) Med schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards

Non-standard you can apply to JCU (no UCAT, GPA 6+ to have a chance), WSU already qualified with ATAR 98.15, JMP with GPA 4.7+ should be no problem. Then it all depends on UCAT and interview.

For UNSW you will need GPA 6.5+ to be given 99.5 conversion. If 6.4 or less the most you get is 98.5 which then combines with your 98.15 to 98.3 equivalent rank. This gives close to zero chance of getting a place even with a top UCAT.

To calculate GPA, for each of your study units give 7 grade points to a HD, 6 D, 5 CR, 4 Pass. Sum these grade points then average.

If anyone wants to know the answer to this question, you also need to upload a copy of your transcript and a transfer application form to SATAC. There is a link to the required form in the 2020 Admissions Guide.

For uac, it says it has my results for my first semester of study, but not my second and that it will just use my first semester, but once I finish my year will it automatically update that get the results for that as well? Also I don't have to update any transcripts for satac and uac if I am applying as a non standard from a different uni right? It gets my results straight from uni using my student ID right? Thanks :)

Yes and yes (for UAC). I am less familiar with SATAC, but I imagine it is the same. :)

Hey everyone,

For the UAC application it says how long I have been studying at my uni (UNSW). On the application, do I put a year next to full-time equivalent as I will have finished a year by December, or put 6 months for how long I have been studying at UNSW?

Thank you!

I remember also being unsure about this when I did my application a couple of years ago. I ended up going with current figures (rather than end of year) and assumed UAC would figure things out! If you're concerned, you can always give them a call. I had to call them about a couple of other things (though didn't bother checking this, actually, and it was never raised as an issue) and they were routinely very helpful.

Hi guys,
I am a first year university student and I want to make an application for UAC. It says that I need to put in my student number (which I presume was my number last year) and my UAC pin. It said that the UAC pin is the first 4 digits of my birth date which I put in, but I was still unable to proceed to the next section. Am I supposed to create an account via this undergraduate application option? And if so, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
