Non-standard Medicine Entry

I was also dropping by to say I don’t think WSU entertains the 10 year rule of graduate entry.
I wrote to them a couple of months back . They told me the Gpa would be calculated only from the degree which is within 10 years timeframe .

So unfortunately the rule holds true .below is the email excerpt from them

“Good Afternoon xxxxx

As the graduate degree will be outside of the 10 years, we would only use the master’s degree obtained in 2011 for 2020 entry ”

-Wsu MD team

It isn't on the general medicine admission page but it is in the handbook. I know my GPA won't count but if I could use my ATAR I would be over the threshold.

Yes Vrish, you are correct, this is the email I received from them,

"In relation to the academic requirements to gain entry into the Doctor of Medicine, I wish to confirm that qualifications cannot me more than 10 years old at course commencement in order for the admissions team to assess. I believe this criteria was recently amended in the last 3-4 years by the School of Medicine."

It's so frustrating as I have a ATAR and a GPA that meet the threshold but neither is deemed useable. If anyone has heard anything different I'd love to hear!

Unfortunately WSU does say once you have graduated with a degree ATAR can no longer be used. Most practical now I think is a one-semester Grad Cert with 6.5+ GPA for WSU.

If you do this at Flinders (by correspondence available) you will also qualify for Flinders quota for its own students, and renew the validity of your Bach degree for other grad entry schools.

Ok great thanks A1 - my Grad Cert would qualify then as it was <10 years ago.

Hi guys, I'm currently a 1st year at UoA in NZ, looking to study med in Australia in Semester 1 2020 after I complete my 1st year.
I'm expecting a (Australian) gpa of 7 and I have sat my UCAT and got 2940.
Is there any particular unis I might have a chance at? I know as a non-standard my options are a bit more limited.
Thanks :)

7.0/2940 gives you average to good chances for an interview with JCU, JMP, WSU, UNSW. With UNSW they will also use ATAR which will be converted from your NZ school results. Good luck.

Hi, thanks I will definitely check those unis out and make an application! I know this is the page for med advice, but what kind of unis am I looking likely for an offer/interview for dentistry?

Thanks once again :)

I know A1 kindly answered your first question, but we’ve actually been routinely deleting these types of questions (and have made moderator announcements about this) as there is really no way we can provide meaningful information prior to the release of percentile curve data.

I am going to take this opportunity to remind users that these questions really shouldn’t be asked yet, and when they are asked, should occur in the appropriate thread.

Thank you.

How does one go about applying for UNSW or any other uni through 1st year university GPA? Is it possible? I looked around the websites for information on it but doesn't say anything

For UNSW (and other NSW unis), you just apply via UAC like everyone else. In UAC there's an option to state whether you are applying as a school leaver or not (so you obviously choose the not option), then UAC does the rest (as in, collects your GPA).

For JCU and Bond, it's via QTAC, for Curtin, it's via TISC.

I just checked on UAC, there is no such option???
Could you show me what this is about?? Because I don't have a degree yet

There was a video that shows 1 or 2 screens after you start the online application, it asks if you are a Y12 student (if so you have to enter your State student number). Othewise you choose no, it takes you to a diff next screen.

This video is on the opening application page on UAC. Have you looked at it yet? If you're not sure what you're doing, then probably start there.
