Official Movie Discussion Thread

QoS was a pretty decent flick, very entertaining. Not quite up to Casino Royale, though. And whatever happened to casting attractive women in the lead role?

^ My sentiments exactly.

Also, what happened to the tradition of Bond getting it on with the female lead?

He did get it on with the red head one. And they weren't very hot for bond girls!!! Though the black haired one got a bit better looking towards the end (when she started killing people instead of just standing there). But still, not up to standards!

Has anyone seen the ad for Angels & Demons!???? It came on before QoS and I literally jumped on my friend in excitment. It's one of my favourite books- hopefully they don't ruin it.

Also, am planning to read Twilight before the movie comes out. Has anyone seen this news?

Yeah but she wasn't the lead female though. =(

Also, yeah i saw the ad for Angels and Demons. Looks interesting.

dont bother reading...i noe there is all this hype but i have no idea where it came from. the book is utterly crap and since there is dismal plot to the book
most of it is in the tralier.

if you see the trailer you see the movie.

But for some reason I read all 4 of them, and mildly enjoyed them at the time, only to be filled with a sense of regret afterwards. Its kinda like bingeing on junk food - you know its bad for you but you just cant stop!

Seriously though, its totally overated. I remember it being described as 'the next Harry Potter', which is an utterly ridiculous comparison to make...

Hm I feel really bad just waiting for the movie version of a book to come out. I've always been very anti people doing that. My sister's been bugging me to read them so I might as well. Need a new book anyway...

I cry a silent tear every time people say twilight is the next Harry Potter. Poor J. K. Rowling. She doesn't deserve that.

I don't plan on reading the books. I've got about 10 books on my to read list and all of them crap all over what twilight has to offer. I don't know if I'll see the movie though, books need a decent plot whereas movies don't. If the special effects are cool I might, god knows there'll be close friends who want to see it.

Aii that's how I felt after reading the Da Vinci code/

The Da Vinci code isn't the stain on your soul some people make it out to be. It's just a thriller type book, sensational storylines, good chase scenes. A bit like today tonight can be, actually.

It's not a horrible book, it's just not an excellent book. It's not particularly well-written (though this kind of book doesn't need to be), there's little character development, or insight.... it's just a quick thrill.

has anyone seen AUSTRALIA yet? anygood? i probably will just go see it for hugh jackman even if its bad. how can you go past wolverine!

Lol anjie, i was just about to ask the same question, who has seen Australia? I feel like i should, very clever marketing with the name. Story sounds cliched but i think the fact that it will be set in australia is what will get people gushing.

I'm SO excited about the Woverine movie next year :D:D:D

And yeah, I'm seeing Australia tomorrow afternoon :) Hope it's good

I saw Australia with my mum. I liked it a lot, but people got up and walked out through it.
I haven't seen many Nicole Kidman movies, but she was pretty ****! I really liked her in Moulin Rouge, but she suited that role because it was supposed to be really surreal. But in Australia, she was pretty bad! There's a scene where she's supposed to be really upset/angry (the suitcase scene, if you've seen it) and instead of portraying any actual emotion, she just stands there with her fists clenched and does that high pitched angry squeak thing that she does. You could hear people groaning in the theatre.
Apart from that I thought it was a decent movie (maybe not as good as it's been hyped up). The aboriginal kid is soooo cute! I've read heaps of reviews on the net where Americans say they wanted subtitles cos they couldn't understand the accents lol.

Has anyone seen Twilight? I haven't read any of the books, but saw the movie today with friends...and LOVED it. (And then went out and bought the first 2 books haha.) Anyone else?

lol. Most of the girls I know who were huge fans of the book series were dissapointed with the movie. And btw, nashinator...were you at interviews yesterday by any chance?

Really? Heh, I thought it was a terrible movie. I have a pretty strong dislike for the books though.

Hmm anyone know what the quantum of solace actually was in the James Bond movie? They never really explained it .

Quantum of Solace is a name for a short story in one of Ian Fleming's books.

Also:

"Bond is looking for his quantum of solace and that's what he wants, he wants his closure. Ian Fleming says that if you don't have a quantum of solace in your relationship then the relationship is over. It's that spark of niceness in a relationship that if you don't have you might as well give up."

He said that "Bond doesn't have that because his girlfriend [Vesper Lynd] has been killed", and therefore, "[Bond is] looking for revenge [...] to make himself happy with the world again."

And I guess the criminal organisation's called Quantum as well, so that's another link to it (somehow). lol

Ahhh it makes sense!
I was most disappointed that they left out the classic lines like "Bond, James Bond" and "shaken, not stirred" in the movie.
