hehe McNerdy, you sound like an IMBD-poster I couldn't care less about the similarities to Forrest Gump or the symbolisms with the clock and hummingbird (felt it was a nice touch), the point of Benjamin Button was that it had the power to touch you and make you think of your own circumstances. Perhaps it is more geared towards the female audience (especially with the highly emotional scenes)? I can't put my finger on it but I felt it was better than Forrest Gump... something about the way it was told, the narration (i agree westenra, that last part was done wonderfully) or something. I particularly enjoyed the themes of fate and predetermined events...the "if this had happened" scene involving Daisy was one of my favourite. Only complaint I haev is that they mumbled too much! I couldn't hear a lot of what they were saying...can't wait till its up on script-o-rama!

Seriously, this movie should've been called A Billion Funerals and a Button...*sigh* i want to see it again! [/offtopic]

but i'll also agree with westenra - cate blanchett was annoying when they first met up again after being separated... she always acts like that. Who else reckons it was a body double for what she was doing on that little circle thingy (at midnight) with the shimmering roof? CGI was amazing though!

Maybe I'm just a little more cynical since I didn't feel touched in the slightest lol. Perhaps it was because I kept expecting something unpredicatable to happen or for me to care about him and it never happened.
I won't say the movie was awful, but I felt it could've been better.

Was it because it was Brad Pitt? because that was what made me slightly hesitant about seeing it

the last hour of the movie was a little ludicrous looking back at it...Pitt spent that whole time doing his pretty boy pose (puppy eyes and all)...although Im not exactly complaining about the white t-shirt boat scene (totally relevant to the story )

also the thing that bugged me most about benjamin button was how it constantly reverted to the ugly, modern hospital with the boring daughter and the inaudible old woman. it took away from any of the momentum it had wearily produced.

mm i feel will smith has kinda gone downhill... it's like he's going after oscars now what with all the one man shows a la: ali, in the pursuit of happyness, i am legend, hancock, and now seven pounds.

i see him as a bit of a peacock and dislike most of his movies now (i used to like him btw!)

I watched 'Seven Pounds' last night, it was pretty good. The storyline was way predictable, but the whole cinema was crying, knowing what was going to happen didn't make it any less sad.

'X Men Origins: Wolverine' trailer was in the previews, as a comic nerd I was disappointed... why can't they just stick to what *actually* happens in the comics?? I go see these comic/movie adaptations and every single time I am disappointed, the comics deal with the characters with so much more maturity than the films. The storylines of the films are always hastily slapped together, it seems they just want to make a quick buck by whoring out the names of these well known characters.
I still think 'The Wolfman' will be amazing.

As for the Wolverine trailer, I'm with McNerdy, it looked pretty awesome, so much gambit . As for being true to the comics, what comics are you reading? The X-men and Wolverine comics have been done in so many different ways that there is no 'true' storyline. Movie Wolverine was a character in his own right before the Wolverine origins comic series even began. I'm happy the movies (including the X-men trilogy) told their own story. There are just too many conflicting comicbook storylines for any movie to be faithful too.




So, who's seen Slumdog Millionaire. I've been keen to see it for a while after all the top notch reviews and I finally got to the other night. I thought it was really good too It was long and the plot was very obvious but even so, the way things all came together at the end.... I was sold.

I just watched 7 pounds, wasn't too keen on it. Its hard to explain without giving away the story, so if you don't care: (spoilers):
[offtopic]Basicly Will Smiths character is in a car accident where he kills 7 people. To make himself feel better about this he helps a bunch of people that he identifies as worthy using his brothers IRS credentials. He gives away his house and even saves some lives by eventually killing himself and leaving his organs to people.[/offtopic]

This series mostly deals with his childhood, right up to pre 'weapon x'. As far as I was aware this series was the only one to completely clarify his origins.
I know the movie seems to be dealing with 'weapon x' wolvie mostly but I thought an origin movie would want to take things from... well the start (haha). Plus the beginings of the whole Sabretooth saga is explained by the series and the movie seems to be focusing on him as the archrival.
My point is; despite artistic license allowing writers to twist his character to fit their storylines, I thought the Origin series was pretty much considered canon and that there wasn't that much ambiguity regarding the origin of wolverine. Of course post-Origin/pre-Weapon X is up for grabs haha... he hangs out with indians for a bit... suddenly he's fighting in world war I???
Anyhow, we should start a comics thread.
The inclusion of Gambit should make the movie worth seeing, however.
But admit it... IRON MAN... THE INCREDIBLE HULK... watching those was like a slap in the face.
Should maybe see the movie before passing comment on its contents, perhaps it's a lovingly rendered recreation of the commonly accepted origins of wolverine and I'm complaining about nothing.

Also; rumored sequel set in Japan, À la Claremont/Miller... do want.

Slumdog was good but I'd be very dissapointed if it won best picture, it was no where near that good. No where near even being close to it.

I keep hearing all this talk about The Wrestler being amazing. I'll have to go see it, it sounded like some Rocky take-off when I was reading about it, apparently not though.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Doubt. It's likely to be another Best Picture contender.
