I know people who felt the same way about the trailer, but say the film itself is so much better (in the US/Canada). One friend said it was the only non-action film she's seen where the audience has collectively gasped.
It'll be interesting to see what happens at the Golden Globes this morning - any predictions? I'll play with the safe money and say that Heath Ledger will get the Globe for his portrayal of the Joker. (Best Supporting Actor, I think it is?)

Speaking of movies, I'm going to Cinema Under the Stars tomorrow night to see Wall-E (again).

how did you find it? (assuming you have seen it) i thought it was quite poignant albeit a little on the long-ish side. made me want to read the original f. scott fitzgerald story. a couple of my friends thought it was a bit sappy but who doesn't love a bit of sap every once in a while

Saw it today. I thought it was okay, I guess I went into it with really high expectations and was a little disappointed that it didn't deliver on the water works front. I wanted it to make me cry.
For some reason the movie reminded me of Big Fish =/I also can't wait to watch Valkrie and that movie about some bank conspiracy thing, the name escapes me.
I totally agree about the TOm Cruise thing though but besides that, the trailer has sold me.
Although I'm more sold on the Clint Eastwood movie and the bank one.
I went to see Twilight a couple of days ago. Pretty poor, I thought. Ugh, does the girl who plays Bella not know how to have any other expression on her face? And I really felt like the story was going no where for the first hour; it was just Edward and Bella making eyes at each other the whole time. Also there were annoying girls who wouldn't shut up on either side of us. I can't wait for uni to start so that those high-school vermin get banished hehe.
On a different note, has anyone seen Brideshead Revisited (2008)? I really really want to see it but I guess I'll just have to wait until DVD comes out >_<.

The twilight film really was very poor, whatever the books are, the film was rubbish.
Cinematography wasn't special, special effects were basically absent, the scripting was horrible (though apparently a lot was taken straight from the books which explains a lot), and the progression was illogical (edward bella = distanced, edward bella = infatuated, edward bella = willing to die for eachother..... where's the inbetween!).
Though it was sometimes funny to laugh at.

Just saw Revolutionary Road, with Leo and Kate Winslet, directed by Sam Mendes.
Was pretty damn good, I knew when I saw the trailer it'd be at the top of my list to see. It was a bit boring for the first half, but gets quite engaging in the second half. Easy to watch and just think "I'm never going to let that happen to me" but realise that a lot of people have gone through it to some degree.
Since it's the same director as American Beauty, it was always meant to be good. A big thumbs up from me.

I'm planning on seeing that movie. Although the trailer bugs me- that one scene in particular, where Kate Winslet makes this stupid face. Ok, to be honest i just don't like the trailer.

I love sad movies though. A great opportunity to catch up on some crying, right?
There were a few giggle-worthy scenes as well (lightning may ring a bell to anyone who's seen CCoBB )

Went to see Grand Torino last night. Really touching movie, all about forging cross-cultural relationships and whatnot. Thought Eastwood did a decent job as director, and even moreso as the star... For some reason tho, he reminded me of an older, cruder House. Either way, great movie with a somewhat expected (but still fitting) ending.

Yeh Gran Torino is on my list too.
Recent films I've seen are The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a definite must see, again because it opens our eyes to what may be the obvious, and shows us there is a world out there beyond what we know and experience.
Marley and Me: I actually didn't want to go and see this, but turned out to be a really good film, especially if you have a dog. I have never been to a movie where so many people cried, literally I think I was the only one that didn't. Could easily wait for this to be on DVD though.
