I got an Alumni scholarship, $5000!
I haven't even gone to Otago yet and I'm already loving it
Plus, I was stressing out so much about University halls of residence because I'm on the General wait list, but they said "a place in a Residential College (although not necessarily your first choice College) is guaranteed if your normal place of residence is outside of Dunedin" because I got the scholarship.
I'm so relieved, I thought I may have to go flatting by myself.
congratz Fitzwilliam!Yeah! That extra bit about the Residential College must've relieved so many people. CongratulationsI got an Alumni scholarship, $5000!

Thanks guys, I'm so happy I got a scholarship. Now I don't have to worry too much about University and focus on the NCEA exams in a couple of weeks time.
@ Wongtong
I don't know exactly when they're going to make me another offer, but I'm guessing it'll be early December. I really hope I get into St Margaret's or Carrington, which are the 2 that I wanted to get into, but I guess it's no guarantee that I get into either of those ones.
You also need to show financial need. (You have to provide information about assets and income)@ Jubs
Applicants must:

- be intending to enrol or be enrolled full-time study at the University of Otago for the first time in the year following the closing date
- have at least NCEA Level 2 with a merit commendation or equivalent
Well I'm currently in my last day at UniCol, so I'll give you my impressions.hi guys! I got accepted into unicol. I heard it's pretty good although i wanted Arana instead
. I wrote a letter to the master and he told me that he tries to put all health science first year students on the same place (around 40%)
the place is called the Forth Street Mews, is this place the good part of the college? Also i chose alcohol free floor..does that mean i won't be put in the Forth Street Mews? Should i choose alcohol free or not.. . Anyone could please share their experience at unicol would be great![]()

*sigh* and their chances of getting into med and all that - I went onto the individual sites of each of the "colleges" and I've looked around and I don't actually see anything about their chances of getting into med? I'm so confused :S Can someone please help me? Does every college have 'alcohol-free' floors? And can you pick like a sort of customised meal plan? (like as in can you ask that they leave certain stuff out? I don't need halal, just need certain stuff left out) and is there seriously some colleges that get more preference over others when it comes to getting students for med? lol, i'm pretty sure your going to think I'm kind of obsessed freak who's going to become one of "those" HSFYers, but trust me I wont Well I'm currently in my last day at UniCol, so I'll give you my impressions.
I didn't even put UniCol on my sheet, but figured I'd give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Please don't go on the alcohol free floors, the types on those floors, to my mind, tend to be 'those' health-scis, who are way too competitive (or those with religious reasons for being there, these ones aren't so bad).
Um, there are alcohol-free flats in the 4th street mews, and in all likelihood, as a health-sci, you'll get put there (I was one of the few HSFY who didn't end up in the mews).
UniCol is pretty great, so long as you're not too fussy with food (I jest, it's not *that* bad), and don't set off the fire alarms. Oh, and buy earplugs![]()
ok thanksOK, so the main round of applications for the colleges has already occurred, meaning that all the places have been allocated and you'll have to go on the general waiting list for a spot in whichever college someone pulls out of. I don't know what your chances of getting a place in a college will be, but I'd imagine they'll be alright if you can put forward a decent application. Chances are you'll have very little say in what college you end up in though (you'll just have to accept whoever offers you a place).
Some colleges traditionally get more people into med than others, but this is because such colleges are very popular (and so you need higher grades at school to get into them = more likely to do well in HSFY). It has led to the belief amongst some students that said colleges increase your chances of getting into med, which they don't. You've got the same chance of getting into med wherever you go.
As far as I'm aware, all the colleges have alcohol-free floors now, should you choose to stay in one.
Also, I'm pretty sure all the colleges can cater to any special dietary requirements you have. The only thing I'd note here is that Toroa college is self-catered, so you'd have to make your own meals if you went there. All the other colleges provide 3 meals a day.
